Flyers' sputtering offense has Mason feeling there's 'no room for error'

Steve Mason told reporters that both he and fellow goaltender Michal Neuvirth know the score in regard to the limited offense provided by the Philadelphia Flyers this season.

"It's been a struggle, obviously, the last few games to get the puck in the net, and for the goaltenders there's no room for error right now," Mason told Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer. "It just puts that much more emphasis on trying to be as perfect as possible."

Philadelphia hasn't scored an even-strength goal in a decade - OK, it's been 257 minutes and 58 seconds, but it likely seems closer to 10 years for the Flyers' faithful. The Flyers (7-10-5) are averaging a league-worst 1.73 goals per contest.

Mason (3-7-4, 3.00 goals-against average) turned in a fine performance in his last outing, yielding just two goals on 35 shots before the New York Islanders added insurance into the empty net of a 3-1 decision on Wednesday. The 27-year-old Mason has received a total of one goal in his last three starts.

Neuvirth (4-3-1, 2.07 goals-against average) has also been given little in terms of offense by Philadelphia, which vies for its fourth win in 16 outings on Friday when it hosts the Nashville Predators.
