Flyers trade Lecavalier, Luke Schenn to the Kings

Vincent Lecavalier is Los Angeles bound.

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman broke the news on Wednesday that the Philadelphia Flyers sent Vincent Lecavalier and defenseman Luke Schenn to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for Jordan Weal and a third-round pick.

Lecavalier, the No. 1 overall pick in 1999, has played in just seven games this season for the Flyers. He's managed just a single assist in his seven outings. He ends his tenure with the Philadelphia with 133 games in three seasons, with 28 goals and 30 assists.

Schenn had spent the last four seasons with the Flyers after they sent James van Riemsdyk to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for Schenn's services. Schenn dressed for 213 games for the Flyers, finishing with 12 goals and 30 assists.

In addition to the trade, the Flyers will retain 50 percent of the salary for both Schenn and Lecavalier. Lecavalier carries a $4.5 million cap hit through the 2017-18 season, and Schenn carries a $3.6 million cap hit, but becomes a unrestricted free agent this upcoming offseason.

While neither player can be considered a bonafide addition for the Kings, it does improve their overall depth both among the forward units and the blue line.

Weal was drafted with the 70th overall pick by the Kings in the 2010 NHL draft. He has appeared in 10 NHL games this season.
