The New York Islanders and veteran forward Steve Bernier agreed to terms on a one-year contract on Thursday.

The team did not divulge the financial terms of the deal, but Arthur Staple of Newsday reported that Bernier will receive $750,000.

The 30-year-old Quebec native had signed a professional tryout contract last week with the Islanders, who have room on their roster after shipping forward Michael Grabner to the Toronto Maple Leafs for five prospects earlier in the day.

Bernier, who is 6-foot-3, 215 pounds, scored a career-high 16 goals and set up 16 others in 67 games last season for the New Jersey Devils.

The 16th overall pick of the 2003 draft, Bernier has collected 104 goals and 120 assists in 609 career contests with the San Jose Sharks, Vancouver Canucks, Florida Panthers and Devils.
