Islanders Lose After Jumping Out To Early Two Goal Lead

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 4:43 p.m. ET

The Islanders started this one with a ton of momentum, but quickly let the Chicago Blackhawks back in the game and ended up losing. Here are the highlights.

The former Chicago Blackhawk Andrew Ladd got the Islanders on the board just 2:14 into this game. Ladd’s been struggling mightily this season so it’s always good to see his name on the score sheet.

Casey Cizikas would add another not even two minutes later and it was a two goal game with 16 minutes left in the first. The only problem was the Islanders still had to play the remaining 56 minutes off this one.

The Blackhawks would respond with two power play goals. Artemi Panarin and Artem Anisimov were the power play goals that tied it.

Marian Hossa made it three unanswered goals for the Blackhawks. Although the Islanders would respond.

For the first time since October 21st Ryan Strome scored a goal. Halloween, the election, and Thanksgiving all happened between Ryan Strome goals (include 15 days of December as well). I digress.

It was a wild first period to say the very least. Anders Lee would net his ninth goal of the year. He got it on the deflection as per usual. The Isles have to ride this Lee hot-streak out for as long as possible.

Panarin would score on the power play again, making the Hawks power play a perfect three for three. The penalty kill struggled tonight against a sound unit.

The lone goal in the third was Richard Panik. The Blackhawks would win this one by a final score of 5-4.

If you jump out to a two goal lead four minutes into the game you should win. Another embarrassing performance from the boys in blue and orange. A very frustrating loss in a game they should’ve won.
