Mysterious goaltender issues arise for reeling Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers' goaltending carousel took another interesting turn on Tuesday.

Michal Neuvirth was seen hobbling after Monday's 3-2 setback to the Boston Bruins, but told reporters the following day that his groin wasn't an issue in the team's optional skate. Neuvirth's availability for Wednesday's tilt versus the Metropolitan Division-rival Washington Capitals appears to be a must as fellow goaltender Steve Mason took his second straight day off and did not talk to reporters.

"I'm OK. Groin is fine. It's not the groin. I was good enough (to practice)."

Should he get the start, Neuvirth will receive his first crack at the team that selected him in the second round of the 2006 draft.

Signed to a two-year, $3.25 million deal on July 1, Neuvirth owns a 10-6-2 mark with a 2.10 goals-against average this season.

Philadelphia (20-18-8) has dropped three in a row heading into a date with league-leading Washington (35-8-3), which is vying to win its 13th consecutive home game to match the longest such streak in franchise history.
