Nashville Predators Pekka Rinne Bests Forsberg, Ekholm at World Cup

The Nashville Predators had three players featured in one of Thursday afternoon’s World Cup matchup.

The Nashville Predators were well represented in the World Cup of Hockey’s matchup between Sweden and Finland, which ended in a 3-2 overtime victory for Team Finland.

Pekka Rinne manned the goal for the winning team, stopping 18 of 20 shots for a .900 save percentage on the day. One of the goals given featured a deflection off Finland defender Sami Vatanen which found its way through Rinne’s pads. The Nashville Predators netminder was able to tighten up in overtime, helping to secure his team’s victory.

Filip Forsberg and Matthias Ekholm both skated for Team Sweden. Neither were able to turn their familiarity with the opposing goaltender into points for their country’s team.

Forsberg took only one shot, while Ekholm registered three- all of which were snuffed out by Rinne. Both skaters ended the game with a 0 plus/minus rating.

Perhaps the most important part of this game- all of our boys finished uninjured. If that’s a trend that continues, I think all Nashville Predators fans will be happy with the results of the World Cup.

Preds defenseman Roman Josi will take to the ice in World Cup action tonight at 8 EST with Team Europe. Finland and Sweden will meet again Saturday at noon EST, with the Swedes hoping to even the score.
