New York Islanders Sign Depth Forward Steve Bernier to New Deal

The New York Islanders Have Agreed to a Two-Year Two-Way Contract with Depth Forward Steve Bernier.

Friday evening the New York Islanders have announced the signing of forward Steve Bernier on a two-year two-way contract for the NHL and AHL respectively. Bernier spent 33 games with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers last season scoring 26 points. During the 2015-16 season, Bernier played a total of 24 games for the New York Islanders notching a total of six points. The previous year he tied his highest record of 32 points in a 67 game span.

He also played all 24 games for the Devils in their Stanley Cup run during 2012. In 633 career games stretched between the Islanders, Devils, Panthers, Canucks, Sabres, and Sharks, Bernier put up 230 career points as well as 23 career playoff points in 74 career playoff games. Also in 118 AHL games with the Sound Tigers, Devils, Sharks, and Barons, he put up 313 points, a much better career output than what he achieved in the NHL.

The 16th overall pick in the 2003 entry draft, Bernier has also had some international success winning a gold medal at the 2003 World Championships finishing second in scoring in team scoring with eight points in seven games. He's definitely not the player he used to be but he'll provide some fourth line depth for the Islanders and possibly help Bridgeport reach the playoffs.
