NHL rookies have mixed results when learning how to figure skate

At the NHL Rookie Showcase, trading card company Upper Deck decided to bring some figure skaters along to spice things up. The results are a hilarious video featuring future and current NHLers trying their absolute best at another ice-related sport.

There’s some great stuff here.

Vancouver Canucks forward Jake Virtanen is absolutely delighted when New Jersey Devils defenseman John Quenneville is told his figure skating form isn’t correct.

There’s a group skating lesson, where some of the rookies hold hands and try to emulate what their teachers are doing.

There are some support exercises with Colorado Avalanche defenseman Chris Bigras and New York Islanders defenseman Ryan Pulock, which go surprisingly well.

The rookies basically all say they’ll stick to hockey and don’t have the chops to become figure skaters – although you can’t deny they tried to learn, even if it was a little out of their comfort zone.
