Penguins' Letang: 'My only goal is to play 82 games'

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang wants to be on the ice ... a lot.

Letang has been plagued by injuries/medical ailments over the last two seasons, with a stroke costing him 26 games in 2013-14 before a concussion essentially ended his 2014-15 campaign.

"Like I've said a million times, my only goal is to play 82 games," the 28-year-old Quebec native told the team's website. "That would be great and that's my main goal. I just want to help the team all year long and not just part of it."

Letang plans to help himself in accomplishing his goal by picking and choosing his battles while still maintaining a physical presence on the ice.

Nursing a concussion, Letang saw his team post a 2-4-1 mark in the final seven contests of the regular season in 2014-15 before bowing in five games to the top-seeded New York Rangers.

Letang matched a career high with 11 goals and set personal bests with 43 assists and 54 points last season for the Penguins. The assists and point totals trumped his career highs of 42 and 50, respectively, set in 2010-11 when he played in all 82 games for the only time in his career.
