Report: Wife of Blackhawks' Keith loses bid of $150K per month for spousal support

The wife of Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith saw her interim bid of $150,000 per month in spousal support rejected by the British Columbia Supreme Court, according to the Vancouver Sun.

Kelly Keith was also seeking $69,270 more in child support for their 2-year-old son Colton, claiming that she had suffered "economic hardship and disadvantages" stemming from the breakdown of the marriage in June 2014.

Justice George MacIntosh ruled that Kelly Keith's financial requests were "disproportionately high, at least in this interim stage." MacIntosh deemed that the reigning Conn Smythe Trophy winner pay $45,000 in spousal support and an additional $15,000 in child support for the time being, but noted that the interim decisions can be reworked at a later day.

Signed to a 13-year, $72 million contract extension in 2009, Keith had been paying his wife $20,000 per month - with half accounting for mortgages and other expenses.

A two-time Norris Trophy recipient, Keith scored the eventual winning goal to lead the Blackhawks to a 2-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup final in June. The 32-year-old Keith had three tallies and 18 assists to tie Chris Chelios for the most points (21) by a Blackhawks' defenseman in a single postseason.
