Blues trade for Oilers goalie Anders Nilsson

ST. LOUIS -- The St. Louis Blues added depth in net just before the trade deadline, acquiring goaltender Anders Nilsson from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for goaltender Niklas Lundstrom and a 2016 fifth-round draft pick.

Nilsson, 25, will be assigned to the Chicago Wolves, their American Hockey League affiliate. Pheonix Copley, who has spent most of the season with the Wolves, is starter Jake Allen's current backup while Brian Elliott is on long-term injured reserve.

Nilsson, 25, has appeared in 26 games for the Oilers this season, posting a 10-12-2 record with a 3.14 goals-against average and a .901 save percentage. The 6-foot-5, 229-pound goaltender was originally drafted by the New York Islanders in the third round (62nd overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. The Lulea, Sweden, native has dressed in 49 career regular-season games between the Islanders and Oilers, accumulating a 19-21-4 record, a 3.10 GAA, a .900 save percentage and one shutout.

Lundstrom, 23, was originally drafted by the Blues in the fifth round (132nd overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He has split this season between the East Coast Hockey League's Elmira Jackals and the Wolves. The Varmdo, Sweden, native has posted an 8-3-0 record in 13 appearances with the Jackals and a 1-1-0 record in four games with the Wolves.
