We all know grading a draft as soon as it is over is folly.
Of course, it also makes for good copy and a fun read.
With that in mind, here is how writers around the Web graded the Bucks and their pick of Rashad Vaughn. Overall, most felt Milwaukee made a good selection.
Here's the list:
ESPN.com's Chad Ford: Grade B. "Vaughn is better than people think and fits a major need the Bucks have -- 3-point shooting off the bench. Coming out of high school, he was ranked ahead of Devin Booker and based on their respective freshman seasons, I think you can argue that Vaughn was almost as good of a shooter (taking many more contested shots) and a much more versatile offensive player. He needs to mature, but the Bucks can afford to be patient with him. The hope is that when O.J. Mayo (who many scouts compare Vaughn to, by the way) hits free agency next summer, he'll be ready to step in and play big minutes."
SI.com's Chris Mannix: Gives pick of Vaughn a grade of B+. "Vaughn inched up draft boards in recent weeks. He's a pure scorer with great size. Khris Middleton will likely be back in Milwaukee, but Vaughn is a talented player who can be developed behind him. He is also protection against a trade that moves O.J. Mayo, who I'm told is very available."
Yahoo Sports' Marc J. Spears: Gives pick of Vaughn a grade of C. "A Milwaukee team in need of instant offense may have found some here. . . . This was a little higher than many expected Vaughn to go, yet he has the scoring punch to one day justify it."
USA Today's Scott Gleeson: Grade C. "Rashad Vaughn (No. 17) is a volume shooter who could fit in nicely alongside Michael Carter-Williams, but there were better options at the board at that point."
USA Today's Steven Ruiz: Gives pick of Vaughn a grade of A. "The Bucks needed shooting -- and scoring -- in the worst way, and they found it with versatile scorer Rashad Vaughn. If he hadn't hurt his knee last season, he would have been a lottery pick. This is good value and fits a need."
CBSSports.com's Matt Moore: Gives pick of Vaughn a grade of B+. "It's definitely a need-based pick, and they got a quality shooter with Vaughn. He can put the little leather ball into the circle with the attached net, so I like this move for Milwaukee."
CBSSports.com's Sam Vecenie: Grade C-. "I'm not a big fan of this one. I think they reached for Vaughn in the first round, as I had him at No. 29 on my big board. . . . If Vaughn becomes what they're hoping, good for Milwaukee. But right now I can't bring myself to write a good letter below."
SBNation's Kevin O'Connor: Gives pick of Vaughn a grade of B in fit and C in opportunity. "Vaughn is an intriguing pick. He was highly recruited out of high school, but he underachieved at UNLV. O.J. Mayo is a free agent after the 2015-16 season, which will open up an opportunity for him to replace him as their sparkplug scorer. Vaughn is an underwhelming defender, but that issue is less concerning due to the amount of length that will surround him on the floor."
Dime/UPROXX's Jack Winter: Grade C+ (includes trade for Greivis Vasquez). "If age proves Vaughn's only issue, Milwaukee will have found a steal in the middle of the first round. You just can't teach Vaughn's scoring instincts."
The Sporting News' Scott Rafferty: Grade B.
