Cardinals activate Carpenter from paternity list, DFA Tejada

Published May. 28, 2016 1:26 p.m. ET

The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that infielder Matt Carpenter has been activated from Major League Baseball's paternity list, and that infielder Ruben Tejada has been designated for assignment in order to make room for Carpenter on the team's 25-man active roster.

Infielder Greg Garcia, who was recalled from Triple-A Memphis when Carpenter was placed on the paternity list, will remain with the club for the time being after going 2 for 3 with three walks over the past two games. The 26-year-old Garcia is hitting .615 in 13 at-bats this season.

Tejada was designated for assignment after hitting .176 in just 34 at-bats in a Cardinals uniform.
