Cardinals keep backup QB Drew Stanton with 2-year deal

Veteran quarterback Drew Stanton will return to the Arizona Cardinals for at least one more season as Carson Palmer's backup.

Stanton, who has started eight games for the Cardinals since signing as a free agent three years ago, agreed Tuesday to a two-year deal. He had a 5-3 record as a starter in 2014 while filling in for an injured Palmer and played in seven games last season in a reserve role.

His most memorable moment in the Cardinals' 2015 NFC West championship season as his spontaneously joyous sideline celebration during Andre Ellington's 48-yard touchdown run at Seattle.

He has completed 143 of 265 passes for 1,815 yards with seven touchdowns and seven interceptions since joining the Cardinals.

Stanton is a nine-year veteran out of Michigan State who played five seasons in Detroit and one in Indianapolis before coming to Arizona.
