Coyotes' 6-foot-8 Scott stands tall ... in All-Star voting

Welp, this is interesting.

The Coyotes' better-than-expected start to the season has attracted quite a bit of attention from the national (and Canadian) scribes. And now, said attention seems to have spilled over into NHL All-Star voting.

We woke up this morning to find a Coyote among names like Alex Ovechkin, Jaromir Jagr and Patrick Kane atop the voting list. Rookie sensation Max Domi, perhaps? Defenseman extraordinaire Oliver Ekman-Larsson? Unsung, but highly appreciated, Martin Hanzal?

No, no, and no again.

Take a look:

Yep, it's that John Scott. The can't-miss (at least when he's on the ice) 6-foot-8, 260-pound fourth-line wing who's chipped in one assist and 18 penalty minutes in six games for the Coyotes.

Scott was fourth as the sun rose over the Superstition Mountains, then began the steady, inevitable climb to the top.

The only explanation we have at this time is an as-yet-uncredited #VoteJohnScott hashtag campaign on Twitter, which we heartily endorse. FOX Sports Arizona's Todd Walsh caught up with Scott in Detroit, where they team is prepping for Thursday's game with the Red Wings, and he, too, was mystified.

"I don't know what's going on. The fans, they obviously like me for some reason," Scott said. "I think it's more of a joke than anything. But I'll take it."

Scott good-naturedly is willing to play along with the gag, but doesn't want to take away from the legitimate star players.

"It's a fun little thing, hopefully it'll kind of die down over time," he said.

Not that he's opposed to being an All-Star. "It would be cool, but I definitely don't deserve it at this point," he said. "You never know. There's still some time left. I can turn it on.
