Coyotes' Richardson suffers broken leg, out indefinitely

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Arizona Coyotes center Brad Richardson fractured tibia and fibula bones in his right leg, the team announced Friday night.

Richardson, who had five goals and four assists in 16 games, underwent surgery at Vancouver, British Columbia, hospital and will be out indefinitely, Coyotes General Manager John Chayka announced is a statement.

"After consultation with our athletic trainers, medical staff and doctors in Vancouver, it was determined that Brad would require surgery to repair his fractured tibia and fibula bones in his leg," Chayka said. "Brad's surgery went very well today and we are confident that he will make a full recovery."

Richardson was injured on an innocent-looking hit from Canucks defenseman Nikita Tryamkin with 8:37 left in the second period.

The 31-year-old Richardson crumpled to the ice and threw his gloves off in agony under the 6-foot-7, 265-pound Tryamkin.

"He's in a lot of pain," Coyotes captain Shane Doan told FOX Sports Arizona's Todd Walsh between the second and third periods of Vancouver's 3-2 overtime win.

"It's a big hole we have to fill in the middle," goalie Louie Domingue said. "He plays crucial minutes in crucial areas of the game, but just the fact he goes down like that, it is a big bummer for our team."
