D-backs to move Peralta to right field

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- In an effort to solidify its outfield defense after the off-season trade of Ender Inciarte, Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale on Wednesday said David Peralta will move from left field to right field and Yasmany Tomas will head the other direction.

Hale said right field is Peralta's preference -- it was where he played when he broke into the major leagues in 2014 -- though Peralta said he has no preference.

"As long as I'm playing I'll be OK," said Peralta, who had a breakout season a year ago. "If they want me to right field, I'm going to do it. I'm happy for it. I'll make my adjustment."

Teams typically put their best corner outfielder in right.

Tomas was listed at 255 pounds last season and was asked by the D-backs to drop some weight during the winter. By all accounts he's done that.

"He looks great," Hale said. "We're very excited. He's moving well."

Among traditional off-season workouts, Tomas climbed mountain with strength coach Nate Shaw and was educated on better overall physical fitness, Hale said.

Hale listed Socrates Brito, Peter O'Brien and non-roster invitee as the top options for the team's fourth outfielder out of camp.

Position players officially report to camp on Monday.
