Dellavedova returns to Cavs on a one-year deal

CLEVELAND (AP) -- The Cleveland Cavaliers will re-sign free agent guard Matthew Dellavedova to a one-year contract. The Cavaliers announced the deal Monday afternoon.

Dellavedova, who emerged as an unlikely postseason contributor after All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving was injured, will sign for $1.2 million for next season, said the person who spoke Monday to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the terms of the contract were not released.

Dellavedova made $816,000 last season.

The Australian has endeared himself to Cleveland fans and his teammates with his non-stop hustle. Dellavedova had several big games in the playoffs, scoring 20 points in Game 3 of the NBA Finals. Dellavedvoa was hospitalized following the game with dehydration.

The Cavs upgraded their backup point guard position this summer by signing Mo Williams, but the club values Dellavedova's defense off the bench and wanted to keep him.
