FOX Sports Wisconsin Midweek Stock Report for April 6

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 2:49 p.m. ET

Every Wednesday, FOX Sports Wisconsin takes a look at which athletes' stock is trending up and whose is trending down.

In other words, who is making a meteoric rise, and who is quickly plummeting.

With that in mind, let's "take stock" of the current sports scene in Wisconsin, shall we?

Scooter Gennett, Brewers second baseman

The left-handed hitting Brewers second baseman talked his way into the lineup on opening day despite star southpaw Madison Bumgarner on the mound for the Giants and all he did was hit his first career homer off a lefty. Not bad for a guy who was hitting about 40 points below his weight against lefties in his career leading up to that point. Gennett also walked against Bumgarner and is 3 for 7 in Milwaukee's first two games.

Jimmy Nelson, Brewers starting pitcher

Milwaukee is in search of an ace of the staff and Nelson could just be the guy who fits the bill. In his first start of the season, the 27-year-old went 7 1/3 innings allowing just two runs on five hits with one walk and three strikeouts.

Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jabari Parker, Bucks forwards

If there are any Bucks who don't want the season to end it might be these two (and perhaps Tyler Ennis). Both are playing a lot of minutes (an average of 40.5 for Parker and 38.3 for Antetokounmpo last week) and producing. Taking to his new role as point guard, the Greek Freak shot 55.2 percent from the field (and made 4 of 7 3-pointers) while averaging 21.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, 8.5 assists, 1.3 blocks and 1.0 steals per game. Not too shabby. Meanwhile, Parker made 53.1 percent of his shots (57.6 percent of his 2-point tries) while averaging 22.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.5 steals.

Henry Ellenson, Marquette forward

After just one season at Marquette, Ellenson, to no one's surprise, is headed off to the NBA. He's being talked about as not just a lottery pick, but also as a top-10 selection. Of course, now comes all the poking and prodding from teams so Ellenson's stock might never be higher than the day he declared to go pro.

Aaron Rodgers, Packers quarterback

This past week Rodgers played golf with the president and an astronaut and received votes during Wisconsin's presidential primary. Other than that it was a slow week.

Ariel Pena, Brewers reliever

Pena, who appeared in six games late last season with five starts, made his first opening-day roster, but the rest of the day didn't quite go as planned. He allowed back-to-back-to-back home runs against San Francisco and a day later found himself designated for assignment.

John Henson, Bucks center

It has been a tough, injury-marred season for Henson. He certainly couldn't get in a groove last week.  Playing just 12.8 minutes per game, he made only 4 of 13 shots (30.8 percent) and averaged 2.3 rebounds, hardly what you expect from a big man.

Nigel Hayes, Badgers forward

Before the season, it was thought Hayes was a potential first-round pick if he decided to leave Wisconsin after his junior year. However, a rough season which saw him shoot just 36.8 percent from the field (and 29.3 percent from 3) -- he made just 9 of 39 shots (23.1 percent) in three NCAA tournament games -- has Hayes' future in doubt. He is asking for a draft grade from the NBA draft advisory committee, but that projected first-round grade from before the season is likely a pipedream at this point.
