'Inside the Rays: Offseason Special' premieres Feb. 26 on FOX Sports Sun
TAMPA, Fla. -- On Friday, Feb. 26 at 10 p.m., FOX Sports Sun, the statewide television home of the Tampa Bay Rays, will debut an all-new episode of "Inside the Rays." Titled "Offseason Special," this episode examines all the happenings away from the diamond as Tampa Bay prepares for the start of Spring Training play.
"Inside the Rays" caught up with Gold Glove recipient Kevin Kiermaier and his workouts with the University of Tampa baseball team, as well as Alex Cobb's charity event at Top Golf, benefitting Hope Children's Home. On the show, Alex discussed his continued rehab from Tommy John surgery in 2015 and his anticipation in rejoining the rotation later this summer.
The 24th annual Ted Williams Hitters Hall of Fame Induction once again took place inside Tropicana Field, with the event billed as "Dinner with Chris Archer and Friends." This year's inductees included two-time Cy Young Winner and eight-time All-Star Roy Halladay and six-time All Star and four-time Gold Glove winner Alan Trammell.
Rays Manager Kevin Cash, bench coach Tom Foley and pitching coach Jim Hickey spent time helping the organization in its continued youth leagues initiative by hosting a clinic for T-ball parents and coaches. For the third straight year, the Rays, Majestic Athletic and Suncoast Credit Union are providing jerseys and caps to more than 10,000 T-ball players and coaches from more than 80 local leagues. The program reaches Little League, Cal Ripken, Dixie and Pony T-ball teams in Charlotte, Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk and Sarasota counties.
Rays President Brian Auld and Senior Vice President of Strategy and Development Melanie Lenz sat down to outline the community work done by the club and the opportunity to explore potential areas for a new ballpark. All this, plus a look at the Rays grounds crew preparing Tropicana Field for opening day, the work done by the equipment staff in readying the squad for camp in Port Charlotte and the arrival of returning veterans along with new additions.
