Line dance continues: Vikings add free-agent tackle Remmers

The Minnesota Vikings said they were going to revamp their offensive line and they weren't kidding.

On Friday, the Vikings signed unrestricted free-agent tackle Mike Remmers after earlier in the day bringing aboard another tackle in Riley Reiff. Remmers' contract is a reported $30 million over a reported five years.

Remmers spent three seasons with Carolina, starting all 16 games in each of the last two seasons and 37 straight overall. He was the starting left tackle on Carolina's 2015 Super Bowl team.

Remmers began his career as an undrafted free agent in 2012 but after stints with Denver, Tampa Bay, San Diego, Minnesota and St. Louis, he landed with the Panthers in 2014. He played in one NFL game, with the Chargers, before being signed as a replacement for an injured Nate Chandler.

With the Vikings, Remmers is expected to play right tackle. He played left tackle last season for the first time after exclusively playing right tackle. Reiff, who played right tackle for the first time in 2016, would take over as Minnesota's left tackle.

After not allowing a sack in five starts in 2014, Remmers gave up 5.5 in 2015 and 7 in 2016. He has committed 11 penalties in each of the last two seasons.

Ironically, Minnesota saw left tackle Matt Kalil leave via free agency for Carolina.
