Mathieu among 4 Cardinals to start training camp on PUP list

Published Jul. 26, 2016 3:40 p.m. ET

The Arizona Cardinals announced safety Tyrann Mathieu, defensive tackle Frostee Rucker, cornerback Justin Bethel and linebacker Zack Wagenmann  will begin training camp on the physically unable to perform list.

Mathieu reconstructive ACL surgery in December. Rucker had ankle surgery this spring and Bethel had surgery to repair a broken foot. Wagenmann suffered a foot injury during off-season workouts.

The PUP designation gives the team roster protection should the player have a setback prior to the start of the season. Players on the PUP list count toward the 90-man roster limit during training camp and are eligible to begin practicing as soon as the team's medical staff clears them.

Cardinals training camp begins Friday at University of Phoenix Stadium.
