Midweek Stock Report: Carew honored at All-Star Game, Whalen hits milestone

Every Wednesday, FOX Sports North takes a look at which athletes' stock is trending up and whose is trending down.

In other words, who is making a meteoric rise, and who is quickly plummeting.

With that in mind, let's "take stock" of the current sports scene in Minnesota, shall we?

Rod Carew, Twins Hall of Famer

Carew and his family shocked baseball fans on Tuesday, when they joined MLB commissioner Rob Manfred as he officially renamed the American League batting title in honor of the Twins legend. Carew won the award that would eventually bear his name seven times.

Eduardo Nunez, Twins shortstop

Nunez may not have gotten to bat in the All-Star Game, but the Twins' lone representative entered the game at second base in the ninth inning. He contributed to all three outs in the inning, first on a fielder's choice before turning a double-play to end the game.

Max Kepler, Twins outfielder

Kepler had just one hit on Sunday in a 15-5 win over the Texas Rangers (he reached on an error in the eighth inning too), but he made it count. The rookie slugger hit the Twins' first grand slam of the season, driving in Eduardo Escobar, Joe Mauer and Kennys Vargas to make it 6-0.

Maya Moore, Lynx forward

Moore earned WNBA Player of the Week honors for the third time this season. The Lynx star set a new season high for all WNBA players in a loss to Connecticut on July 7, scoring 40 points.

Lindsay Whalen, Lynx guard

Whalen reached a historic milestone last Thursday, becoming the first playing in WNBA history to reach 5,000 points, 2,000 assists and 1,500 rebounds. The former Gophers star is just the 15th player to reach 5,000 career points.

Kris Dunn, Timberwolves guard

Dunn sat out of the Timberwolves' summer-league loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday after suffering a concussion. Dunn was hit in the jaw by fellow first-round pick Jakob Poetl during the Wolves' loss to the Toronto Raptors on Sunday.

Ricky Rubio, Timberwolves guard

Rubio exited an exhibition matchup against Angola with a thigh injury while competing for his native Spain. The AP later reported that the ailment wasn't considered serious, and that the move was precautionary.
