Midweek Stock Report: Moore goes off in Game 2

Every Wednesday, FOX Sports North takes a look at which athletes' stock is trending up and whose is trending down.

In other words, who is heating up and who is cooling off.

With that in mind, let's take stock of the current Minnesota sports scene.

Maya Moore, Lynx forward

Moore willed the Lynx to a big win in Game 2 of the WNBA Finals, scoring 21 points against the Los Angeles Sparks to even the series. She went 8-for-16 from the field, while hitting three 3-pointers on the night.

Adam Thielen, Vikings receiver

Thielen stepped into Stefon Diggs' role as quarterback Sam Bradford's top target, racking up a career-high 127 yards and a touchdown. A Minnesota native and former undrafted free agent, Thielen has impressed so far this season, and could be carving out a larger role for himself in the offense, even with Diggs on the mend.

Marcus Sherels, Vikings punt returner

Sherels returned another punt for a touchdown on Sunday, and now has now taken a combined five returns to the end zone throughout his career. That score moved Sherels into a tie with former Vikings speedster Percy Harvin for the franchise record.

Tyler Sheehy, Gophers forward

Sheehy was the Big Ten First Star of the Week after leading the Gophers to a pair of wins in Alaska over the weekend. The sophomore scored two goals and added three assists in wins over Alaska-Anchorage and Alaska-Fairbanks, and leads the conference in scoring through two games.

Neal Pionk, Minnesota-Duluth defenseman

Pionk's sophomore season is already off to an explosive start. He was named the NCHC's Defenseman of the Week after scoring two goals and adding an assist in the Bulldogs' weekend series against UMass-Lowell. He now leads UMD in scoring with three goals and three assists.

Andre Smith, Vikings right tackle

The Vikings' offensive line took another hit Tuesday when Smith was placed on injured reserve with a triceps injury. Smith signed with the Vikings in the offseason, and was expected to play a critical role on a line that was one of the league's worst last season. The Vikings signed oft-injured tackle Jake Long to help fill the void, but it's another significant blow for a line that has looked shaky so far.

Mitch Leidner, Gophers quarterback

After struggling in a loss Iowa last week Leidner has been diagnosed with a concussion ahead of the Gophers' matchup with Maryland. Leidner completed just 11 of 33 passes while throwing two interceptions against the Hawkeyes, leaving junior Conor Rhoda in line to start.
