NL West Fantasy Baseball Notes: Maeda keeps rolling
No Coors games until the weekend? Bad for your hitters, good for your pitchers.
Arizona Diamondbacks
Shelby Miller injured his hand in a weird manner on Saturday, and his status for this week is TBD. Since Rubby De La Rosa had to enter that game in relief, Archie Bradley has been called up from Triple A to make Monday's start at San Francisco. Bradley's road from top prospect to big league starter has been slowed by injuries and bad control, but the D-backs say they like what they've seen in two minor-league starts this season. The bet here is that the Giants will make things tough on Bradley.
Center field update: Socrates Brito started Friday and Saturday against righthanders, while Chris Owings got the nod versus a lefty on Sunday. This is what we thought might happen when A.J. Pollock got hurt.
Colorado Rockies
Once again, while we hate to be wet blankets, SS Trevor Story went 2-for-12 with seven strikeouts over the weekend. Did you sell high? If so, what did you get? Leave a comment below with your answer.
On the bright side for Story owners, Denver Post beat writer Patrick Saunders doesn't see Jose Reyes ever playing for the Rockies again.
Catcher Nick Hundley was placed on the seven-day concussion DL, retroactive to Thursday. Maybe we'll see him this weekend.
One of Hundley's replacements, Tony Wolters, stole two bases on Thursday and one on Friday. Wolters swiped 19 bases in A ball in 2011, but hasn't shown much speed since. Still, there's some speed there, right? NL-only leaguers needing a short-term replacement for Hundley should consider adding Wolters if they still can.
The Rockies' website suggests that Jonathan Gray will make his first start of the season on Friday versus the Dodgers. Gray is the Rockies' best pitching prospect, but most fitting that description have been beaten into submission by their home park. Let's hope Gray becomes the exception to that rule.
Los Angeles Dodgers
After his latest strong outing on Sunday, SP Kenta Maeda is 2-0 with a 0.47 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP through three starts.
Catcher Yasmani Grandal had two hits each on Saturday and Sunday. Grandal is owned in 44.1 percent of FOXSports.com leagues, and if I'm allowed an "I told you so" on any player in 2016, he's going to be the guy.
The Dodgers are off Monday before starting three-game series with the Braves and Rockies.
San Diego Padres
Melvin Upton Jr. batted cleanup twice and fifth once over the weekend. Is it 2007?
Wil Myers had seven hits in the three-game series with the D-backs, moving between the second and leadoff spots. Myers is owned in just 32.1 percent of FOXSports.com leagues, and carries OF/1B eligibility. If you're in a 12-team league with five outfield spots, he's worth a look.
The Padres get their week started at home on Tuesday against the Pirates. Drew Pomeranz's Wednesday start is the one to watch, as he's been pitching well so far, and is available in more than 90 percent of FOXSports.com leagues.
San Francisco Giants
Manager Bruce Bochy said he'll probably give struggling 3B Matt Duffy a day off soon. Watch the Giants' lineups if you own Duffy in a daily league.
Jake Peavy looks to make his first normal start on Monday after getting pummeled at Coors Field last week.
RP Sergio Romo (strained flexor tendon in elbow) won't throw for 10 days, and says his rehab is "almost like I get another month of Spring Training." Remember when Romo was a terrific closer? Sigh.
