Padres recall Jedd Gyorko, place Spangenberg on DL

SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Padres announced Tuesday that they have recalled infielder Jedd Gyorko from Triple-A El Paso and placed infielder Cory Spangenberg on the 15-day DL with a bone contusion.

Gyorko, who was demoted on July 10, has hit .279 with four home runs and 16 RBI in 16 games and 61 at-bats at Triple-A El Paso. He was hitting .210 with two home runs and 11 RBI in 46 games and 119 at-bats with the Padres before being sent down.

Spangenberg was hurt on Saturday night when he was upended by Nick Ahmed of the Diamondbacks while turning a double play. He has hit .254 this season 21 runs scored, 11 RBI and 7 stolen bases in 67 games played.
