Philip Rivers leading NFL in completions and passing yards

SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Chargers have suffered a few heartbreaking losses this season and find themselves with a disappointing 2-4 record heading into Week 7. However, one of the bright spots for the Bolts has been the passing game, led by Philip Rivers who is on pace to crush a couple of NFL records this season.

Through six games, Rivers leads the league with 177 completions and 2,116 passing yards. In Sunday's loss to the Packers, his 43 completions on 65 attempts and 503 yards set Charger franchise records, and were the most completions by a quarterback in a loss in NFL history. His performance on Sunday was also only the 17th time in history that a quarterback has thrown for more than 500 yards in a single game.

Including that 503-yard performance, Rivers has a whopping 2,116 passing yards through six games, which is over 350 yards more than the next closest player this season (Andy Dalton, 1,761).

As noted in the video below, Rivers is on pace to break Peyton Manning's record of 5,477 set in 2013, as well as Drew Brees' completion record of 468 set in 2011.

It's not all great for the Chargers' passing game though, as Rivers has been sacked 17 times in 2015 so far, which is tied for fifth in the league. Head coach Mike McCoy noted in the postgame press conference following the loss to the Packers that they need to improve the running game, which if accomplished, would almost certainly slow down Rivers' remarkable pace.
