Rangers power leads to series win in Baltimore

What went right?

• First baseman Mitch Moreland didn't even have to play in the final two games of the series to qualify for what went right. Not after he swatted two homers in each of the first two games. Moreland had five hits in the series and drove in seven runs and now leads the Rangers with 14 homers despite a stint on the disabled list.

• Yovani Gallardo extended his scoreless innings streak to 29 1/3 innings with his six scoreless frames Thursday. It's the fourth-longest scoreless innings streak in club history and Gallardo lowered his ERA to 2.56. The Rangers now have shutouts in each of Gallardo's last two starts.

• Shin-Soo Choo did his best to match Moreland's power display in the series. Choo had homers in the first three games of the series, which matches the longest homer streak of his career. He became the first Texas player to homer in three-straight games since Adrian Beltre did it in 2012.

What went wrong?

• Starters Nick Martinez and Colby Lewis weren't sharp in their two starts although Lewis did get a win in the 8-6 slugfest. The two combined to allow nine runs in 12 2/3 innings of work. Lewis also allowed three homers while Martinez served up two.

What's next?

The road warriors return home for an eight-game stand leading up to the All-Star break. The homestand begins with a three-game series against Josh Hamilton's former team, the Los Angeles Angels. The homestand should also include the 2015 debut of Texas left-hander Matt Harrison.
