Salvy leads all AL All-Star balloting; Hosmer, Cain also tracking to start

The Kansas City Royals dominated the American League All-Star fan voting as defending AL champions a year ago. Led by catcher Salvador Perez, they're off to another solid start as two-time defending AL champs -- and, of course, the reigning World Series champions.

If the voting ended today, three Royals would be All-Star starters: Perez, first baseman Eric Hosmer and center fielder Lorenzo Cain.

Perez, who is out for a week to 10 days with a quad contusion, leads all AL players with 1,094,942 votes. He is followed by Red Sox DH David Ortiz (963,076) and Angels outfielder Mike Trout (934,137).

Hosmer is next and leads all AL first basemen with 871,222 votes, while Cain is second behind Trout among AL outfielders with 647,339, which means he would be one of the league's three starting outfielders in the July 12 game in San Diego.
