TE Ellison leaves Vikings, signs with Giants

After five seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, tight end Rhett Ellison is headed to the New York Giants.

An unrestricted free agent, Ellison signed a four-year deal with the Giants worth a reported $18 million, a hefty payday for a blocking tight end who earned $1.8 million with Minnesota in 2016.

Suffering a knee injury in January 2016, Rhett Ellison wasn't a sure thing to even be on the Vikings last season. But he got back to health quickly and Minnesota re-signed him.

Ellison had nine receptions for 57 yards last season and ran for a 1-yard touchdown. In five seasons with the Vikings, Ellison played in 73 games with 51 catches for 515 yards and three touchdowns.

The Vikings drafted David Morgan in the sixth round last year to be Ellison's eventual replacement.
