United Airlines Memorial Coliseum: Name change for one of LA's historic venues

It's a new day for the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

The site of the first-ever Super Bowl in 1967, as well as, the current home field for USC and the LA Rams, will be known as the United Airlines Memorial Coliseum.

Groundbreaking for the Coliseum renovations broke ground on Monday, kicking off a two-year, $270-million project.

The Coliseum will assume the 'United Airlines' title beginning in Aug. of 2019 under a 16-year naming rights deal.

"The university has a time-honored commitment to the Coliseum, serving as its longest enduring tenant," USC President C.L. Max Nikias said. "USC is honored to be the caretaker of this Los Angeles treasure. Together with United, we can ensure the Coliseum's future as a world-class venue and true community asset."
