Vikings' Forbath named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week

Kai Forbath has been named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week after his six field goals boosted the Minnesota Vikings to a 24-16 win over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

Forbath set a career high in field goals and was one short of the Vikings’ single-game record of seven, reached by Rich Karlis in 1989.

Forbath booted field goals of 52, 51, 43, 43, 34 and 32 yards, the first time in his career he’s notched multiple 50-yarders in one game.

He is the eighth kicker in Vikings history to win the honor, and the first one since Blair Walsh in December 2015. Other Minnesota placekickers to win the NFC Player of the Week award are Ryan Longwell, Gary Anderson, Eddie Murray, Fuad Reveiz, Karlis and Jan Stenerud.

Two other current Vikings players have won the honor in the past: Adam Thielen (2014) and return man Marcus Sherels (2015).

Signed by Minnesota last November after the Vikings cut Walsh in Week 10, Forbath has made 32 of 33 field-goal attempts while wearing purple.
