Week 16: Fantasy Football Starts and Sits

Published Dec. 23, 2015 3:08 p.m. ET

Starts:

QB - Blake Bortles, JAC (@ NO)

When you see that a QB only has one TD pass in a game, you might be disappointed. That wasn't the case for Bortles in Week 15. He still threw for 297 yards and also added 44 rushing yards with another TD. He has rushed for a TD in back-to-back games. Now, his passing numbers will be back to normal as he faces a Saints defense that has allowed at least three passing TDs in two of the last three games. Bortles will be on a lot of championship-winning rosters in 2015.

Other notables: Tyrod Taylor (BUF), Alex Smith (CLE), Kirk Cousins (WAS)

RB - Karlos Williams, BUF (vs. DAL)

Much like how Bortles will be on winning lineups, Williams could be the difference-maker if you can add him. Last week, when LeSean McCoy was hurt, Williams rushed for 41 yards on only four carries (10.3 yards per touch). Also, while he hasn't scored in the past four starts, Dallas has allowed three rushing TDs to opposing RBs in the past three weeks.

Other notables: Cameron Artis-Payne (CAR), Charcandrick West (KC), Bilal Powell (NYJ)

WR - DeAndre Hopkins, HOU (@ TEN)

Okay, before this sounds too obvious of a play, I've seen a surprisingly excessive amount of questions regarding Hopkins. The biggest fear revolves around Brandon Weeden. However, consider his opponent this week. Tennessee has allowed nine touchdowns to opposing WRs in the past five weeks. On Week 8, Hopkins caught eight balls for 94 yards and a TD against the Titans. Even with Weeden at QB, Hopkins will get his targets.

Other notables: Rueben Randle (NYG), Stefon Diggs (MIN), Ted Ginn Jr. (CAR)

TE - Jordan Reed, WAS (@ PHI)

It's rare to see him healthy, but when he is, Reed is a Top Five TE on a weekly basis. In the past two games, Reed has notched three touchdowns, 16 catches, and over 200 receiving yards. As for his targets, Reed is tied for fourth among his fellow TEs with 24 targets in the past three weeks.

Other notables: Will Tye (NYG), Zach Miller (CHI), Tyler Eifert (CIN)

Sits:

QB - Ryan Fitzpatrick, NYJ (vs. NE)

It will be really tempting to start Fitzpatrick given the fact that he has thrown at least two TDs in three of the past four games. However, the ceiling is low this week. New England hasn't allowed more than two passing TDs since Week 6. Also, no one has thrown for over 300 yards since Week 10. Against Fitzpatrick, in Week 7, the Patriots allowed 295 passing yards and two TDs.

Others include: Derek Carr (OAK), Matt Ryan (ATL), AJ McCarron (CIN)

RB - Lamar Miller, MIA (vs. IND)

What a colossal disappointment. Miller carried the ball nine times and only tallied 12 rushing yards. Sure, he suffered a quad injury and his team was trailing by a large margin, but it was still disheartening. If you were lucky enough to survive that performance, you are with me in the benching of Miller. Also, the Colts have allowed only one rushing touchdown since Week 9.

Others include: Steven Jackson (NE), Jeremy Hill (CIN), Chris Ivory (NYJ)

WR - T.Y. Hilton, IND (@ MIA)

Unlike Hopkins, Hilton isn't guaranteed his allotted touches. In two of the past three weeks, Hilton only recorded five targets and three catches. Last week, the Dolphins kept the Chargers' WRs out of the end zone. Matt Haselbeck will likely start for the Colts this week. He hasn't thrown more than one TD pass in a game in the past three starts.

Others include: Travis Benjamin (CLE), Brandon LaFell (NE), Dez Bryant (DAL)

TE - Kyle Rudolph, MIN (vs. NYG)

The targets tell the story. In the past three weeks, Rudolph only has 12 targets. Last week, though his team scored 38 points, Rudolph caught only two passes for 21 yards. In the past five weeks, only one TE has scored a TD against the Giants (Greg Olsen).

Others include: Charles Clay (BUF), Jacob Tamme (ATL), Jordan Cameron (MIA)
