Jacob deGrom, NYM (@ PHI, vs. BOS) – The deGrominator is making pitching look easy. He has allowed no more than two earned runs once in the past 10 games. deGrom has also struck out at least six batters in seven consecutive starts. This week, he will first face the Phillies. In 2015, deGrom is 1-0 with a 1.32 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 13.2 innings against Philadelphia. As for the second start, deGrom is at home. This season, he is 6-2 with a 1.46 ERA in 12 outings at Citi Field.
Stephen Strasburg, WAS (vs. SD, vs. MIA) – He has allowed two earned runs or less in seven straight starts. Strasburg has also struck out at least five batters in five of the past six performances. He will be at Nationals Park for both games this week. At home, Strasburg’s ERA in two full runs lower (3.09 ERA) as opposed to when he is on the road (5.09 ERA) this season.
Dallas Keuchel, HOU (@ NYY, @ MIN) – The Astros’ ace has allowed two earned runs or less in three of the past four games. Keuchel’s first game of the week is against the Yankees. Earlier in the season, Keuchel pitched a complete game shutout when he faced the AL’s New York and he also struck out 12 batters in the process.
Potential bargains:
Julio Teheran, ATL (vs. COL, vs. NYY) – He’s just a better pitcher at home than he is on the road, by a lot. When Teheran gets the nod at Turner Field, he is 6-1 with a 2.44 ERA this season (6.32 ERA on the road).
Nate Karns, TB (vs. MIN, vs. KC) – In his last six starts, Karns has allowed two earned runs or less in five of them. He has also struck out at least seven batters in half of those outings. Karns’ first opponent of the week, Minnesota, leads the league with 83 strikeouts in the past week.
I’ll pass:
Derek Holland, TEX (vs. TOR, vs. BAL) – Both clubs are loaded with lefty-killers. Toronto’s Josh Donaldson is 6-18 (.333) with two home runs against Holland. The Blue Jays also lead the league with 51 runs scored in the past week. As a team, Toronto is also batting .284 this season against southpaws (second-best). While Adam Jones hasn’t taken Holland deep, yet, he is one of a potential five starters for Baltimore who are batting at least .290 this year against left-handed pitchers.
