A day after sweeping past rival Rafael Nadal in the semifinals of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, Calif., Switzerland's Roger Federer finished the deal on Sunday, defeating American John Isner 7-6 (7), 6-3 to win the championship. Nadal and Isner are the only two players to defeat Federer since last year's US Open, the former world No. 1 going 39-2 in that time.

One of the reasons Roger Federer got by John Isner was his advantage in the service game. Though the American is known for his booming serves, Federer held the advantage in Sunday's final, with seven aces to Isner's four.

John Isner certainly stands taller than Roger Federer, but Roger holds the better hardware after Sunday's result. Federer also joined Rafael Nadal atop a prestigious list, tying the Spaniard with most career ATP World Tour Masters 1000 career titles at 19.

Well, Victoria Azarenka of Belarus (in blue) certainly did. She is congratulated by Maria Sharapova after sweeping the Russian 6-2, 6-3 to win the BNP Paribas Open on Sunday and earning a $1 million payday. Azarenka is now 23-0 in 2012.

One of the keys to Victoria Azarenka's seven-figure win on Sunday was her ability to break the serve of Maria Sharapova. The No. 1-ranked player on the world broke Sharapova six times Sunday.

In case you haven't heard, Victoria Azarenka is pretty good. The No. 1 player in the world is now 23-0 this year, the best start on the WTA Tour since Martina Hingis went 37-0 to start 1997. The Belarus star has now won a Tour-leading four titles in 2012.
