Nadal locked up his sixth French Open title in seven tries, beating arch-rival Roger Federer 7-5, 7-6 (3), 5-7, 6-1. Down 5-2 in the first set, Nadal rallied back to win the next seven games to break Federer's spirit and take control of the match. It was Nadal's 25th meeting against Federer, 19 of which have been in tournament finals.

Nadal finally captured the one title missing for a career Grand Slam, beating Novak Djokovic in four sets in a final that got pushed back to a Monday because of rain. Djokovic gave it a good run, but the relentless stamina and shot-making of Nadal proved to be too much in a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 victory.

An injured Nadal was unable to defend his Wimbledon title in 2009, but he returned with a vengeance in 2010, pulling off the French-Wimbledon double for the second time with a 6-3, 7-5, 6-4 win over Tomas Berdych. It was Nadal's second title at the All England Club.

After missing out on the French Open title in 2009, Nadal returned to Roland Garros healthy and back in top form. He cruised into the final without having dropped a set and kept right on dominating in a 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 win over Robin Soderling — the same man who had handed him his only Paris loss ever the year before. It was the first time Nadal won a Grand Slam without having to beat Federer along the way.

New venue, same opponent in the final. Nadal and Federer squared off for the seventh time in a Slam final in Melbourne in 2009. Once again, it went five sets. The two traded sets for the first four, then Federer melted down with a slew of errors in the fifth. Nadal won 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (3), 3-6, 6-2, reducing his longtime foil to tears after the match and leaving himself just a U.S. Open title shy of a Career Slam.

As much as Nadal enjoys his dominance at the French, Wimbledon was always the most coveted title. He finally broke through in 2008 in one of the greatest matches in tennis history. Federer had beaten Nadal in the Wimbledon final in both 2006 and 2007, but Nadal outlasted him in this five-set marathon 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-7 (8), 9-7. It was the longest Wimbledon final in history at 4 hours and 48 minutes. Multiple rain delays forced the unforgettable spectacle to last until near darkness in London.

For the third straight year, Nadal and Federer met in the final at Roland Garros. And for the third straight year, Nadal bested the then-world No. 1. This one wasn't even close. Federer won just four games in the 6-1, 6-3, 6-0 drubbing — a victory that seemed to predict the future, as Nadal would soon overtake Federer for the world rankings' top spot.

Nadal came up against Federer in the Roland Garros final again in 2007. The Spaniard had lost to Federer a few weeks prior, ending his record 81-match clay-court winning streak. But Nadal got his revenge at the French, winning the final 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Nadal capped his brilliant clay court season in 2006 with his second straight title at Roland Garros. It was also his first meeting with Federer in a Slam final — and the first time Federer had lost a Slam final after winning his first seven. It began poorly for Rafa as Federer seized the first set 6-1. But Nadal bounced back, winning the next three sets 6-1, 6-4, 7-6 (4) to clinch the title.

Rafael Nadal's first ever appearance at Roland Garros was one for the record books. The just-turned-19 Nadal beat Roger Federer in the semifinals, then took down unheralded Argentinian Mariano Puerta in the final. Nadal lost the first set 6-7 (6) before taking the next three 6-3, 6-1, 7-5 for his first career major trophy.
