American John Isner and Frenchman Nicolas Mahut, pictured, put on one unforgettable show at the 2010 Wimbledon. After just over 11 hours of play — far and away the longest match in recorded tennis history — they finally produced a winner, with Isner defeating Mahut by an incredible score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-7, 7-6, 70-68. The fifth set alone, at just over 8 hours, is longer than any other known match.

Sweden's Stefan Edberg took 5 hours, 26 minutes to defeat American Michael Chang in the 1992 U.S. Open semifinals in the longest match ever at Flushing Meadows.  Edberg won the five-set affair 6-7 (3), 7-5, 7-6 (3), 5-7, 6-4. Edberg went on to defeat Pete Sampras for the championship.

Fabrice Santoro needed 6 hours, 33 minutes to beat Frenchman Arnaud Clement in the first round of the 2004 French Open. When the dust settled, Santoro came away with a 6-4, 6-3, 6-7 (5), 3-6, 16-14 victory — longest ever at Roland Garros in the Open era.

Still fresh in our memories, Rafael Nadal defeated fellow Spaniard Fernando Verdasco in an epic semifinal match by the score of 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-6 (2), 6-7 (1), 6-4 in a Melbourne Park-record 5 hours, 14 minutes. Perhaps more impressively, Nadal returned to the court two days later and beat Roger Federer in another five-set match to win the title.
