Oman:OTA pick Ahmed, Fahr, Maliha, Sarah for Asian U-13 tourney

Pakistan, Nov. 10 -- MUSCAT - The Oman Tennis Association (OTA) has named a four-member team for the ITF Under-13 Asian Championships to be hosted in Jordanian capital of Amman from today. The team, comprising two boys Ahmed al Barwani and Fahr al Maamari and two girls Maliha al Awaidi and Sarah al Balushi, will leave for Amman today.

According to a press release issued by the OTA yesterday, The team will be accompanied by coach Fatma al Barwani while the Oman delegation will be headed by OTA Technical Advisor Salman al Balushi.Al total of 13 countries including the GCC nations will participate in the tournament. The participating countries are Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Jordan, Bahrain, Syria, Palestine, Kuwait, Iran, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, Lebanon and Iraq. "The purpose of participating in the tournament is to compare the level of our Tennis with the on from the West Asian ones and we are expecting to achieve good results especially from our girls whom we expect to reach the top three at the end of the championships," said Salman al Balushi.There will be a one-day training camp followed by two four-day tournaments. The first round matches will be held from November 11 to 14 followed by a days rest on November 15 then the second round will take place from November 16 to 19. Depending on the performance of the team in the Under-13 championships the ITF will finally select a team to participate in the 2010 ITF Under-14 West Asian Championships where the ITF will provide a coach to travel with the team.The draw for the championships will be held tomorrow. The ITF Junior world ranking code will be in force according to the international standards. The top eight seeds will get a first round bye and move into the second round while the other players will play one singles match per day. In the doubles category the doubles parings must be from the same country and it will be run on a knock out basis. Published by HT Syndication with permission from Right Vision News.
