LTA to invest SW19 surplus
by Daily Post
The Centre Court roof and increased capacity, coupled with two weeks of superb weather and Andy Murray's run to the semi-finals, contributed to record attendances throughout the fortnight.
LTA chief executive Roger Draper said: "The 2009 Championships once again showed that this country has the best Tennis event in the world.
"Record attendance and world-class Tennis captivated Tennis fans around the world.
"We would like to thank the All England Club for all their hard work and look forward to working with them over the coming year."
The LTA have come under increasing pressure to start delivering the results their significant resources would appear to warrant.
A successful Wimbledon financially was not matched by home performances, with only Elena Baltacha joining Murray in the second round ofthe singles.
The 22-year-old remains the only British man in the world's top 150 and, while the women have improved markedly over the past 18 months, only Anne Keothavong has played regularly on the WTA Tour.
