Novak enjoys new routine
by 7 Days
World No.3 Novak Djokovic is confident his unique preparation can pave the way for a successful defence of the Australian Open this month.
While many of the world?s best were in Abu Dhabi over the weekend and are set to fight it out in Doha, the Serbian is already in the southern hemisphere and is set to get his season under way as top seed at the Brisbane International.
Djokovic knows all about success Down Under, having won the ATP title in Adelaide in 2007 before claiming a first Grand Slam title with a final victory over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in Melbourne last season. And the 21-year-old said: ?Everyone has his own routine - I have my routine preparing for the major events. It?s always nice to come back to the country where you did well the previous year.
?I take the best memories of my career out of Melbourne last year and I really look forward to going back there.
?Of course there is going to be a certain amount of expectation and pressure obviously as the Grand Slam champion but I will try to use it in my favour and look at it as a positive challenge.?
Seventh seed Richard Gasquet was forced to fight back from a set down before getting his campaign started with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 win over Marc Gicquel in Brisbane.
The Frenchman will face Taylor Dent in the second round after the American defeated Steve Darcis 7-6 (7-0), 6-2. Fourth seed Robin Soderling and Julien Benneteau also progressed.
