But she still came away with a smile on her face having entertained the crowds gathered in the heat around Court 7 at the All England Club.
Currently ranked 47 in the world among girls aged 18 and under, Cornish was unable to build on her impressive first round win over Alexandra Krunic of Serbia on Monday and finally went down 6-2 6-4 against Njiric.
"I could have played better but I'm happy," she told The Echo.
"This has been the first year I've played in the singles at Wimbledon.
"It's so nice playing in front of your home crowd with everyone there supporting you.
"You're playing the best people in the world and it's nice to know you can live with them and win matches.
"I'm disappointed I lost today because I had a few chances in the second set.
"She played solid the whole way through and I don't want to take anything away from her because I wasn't at my best.
"I know I can do better than that. But that's all part of the learning experience, playing somewhere like this with the crowds and the heat and the best players in the world.
"If that doesn't inspire you to improve then nothing will."
Despite losing Cornish, who comes from a Tennis playing family, is going to remain at Wimbledon on the off chance she can land a ticket to one of this weekend's finals.
"My dad is a member of the All England Club.
"I'm hoping he might have a spare one," says Cornish, a big admirer of Roger Federer and the Williams sisters.
"But apart from that I'm just going to wander around the courts and try and pick up a few tips from watching people like Andy Murray and Lleyton Hewitt.
"They set the kind of standards that you dream of following," added the local teenager who seems to have a bright future ahead of her.
