Sergio Garcia, a spectator at Wimbledon today watching fellow Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero take on Andy Murray, is keen to sew up a place in the Volvo World Match Play Championship as soon as he can.

The 16-man event on October 29-November 1 switches this year from Wentworth to the Finca Cortesin course near Marbella and Garcia said: ``It is a very exciting for Spanish golf that we have been selected to host this historic tournament and I want to be there.

``I am currently qualified through my world ranking, but I know there is a lot of golf to be played between now and then, including two majors.

``I will be looking for a really strong summer that leaves my qualification in no doubt.

``I think all the players are thrilled that Volvo has chosen the World Match Play after such successful and long-standing support of the Volvo Masters and personally I am delighted they chose to stay in Spain.

Retief Goosen, currently qualified as the highest-ranked African player, has also put the championship firmly on his schedule.

``This could have a huge impact on the European Tour Race to Dubai,'' commented the South African.

``I have been playing much better lately, but will need to keep up this form as Tim Clark is hot on my heels.''

As things stand the qualifiers would be as follows: Ernie Els, Scott Strange, Paul Casey, Retief Goosen, Tiger Woods, Camilo Villegas, Jeev Milkha Singh, Geoff Ogilvy, Phil Mickelson, Kenny Perry, Sergio Garcia, Henrik Stenson, Rory McIlroy, Ross Fisher, Angel Cabrera, Oliver Wilson
