Andy out to derail Fed's express run to record title
by Sunday Sun
But Roddick served and played superbly to beat Andy Murray in the semi-finals, ending hopes of a home triumph, and is desperate to claim just a third win in 21 matches against Federer.
"Obviously you can't really say enough to signify what Roger's career has been to this point," conceded American Roddick.
"But I'd love to delay it (the 15th title) for another grand slam."
However, all the statistics point to a win today for Federer, who has dropped just one set on his way to the final.
Federer has won all seven of his previous grand slam meetings with Roddick, including three finals, and is contesting a 20th grand slam final.
Since that US Open final, Federer and Rafael Nadal have dominated the grand slams, with Roddick rarely figuring until this year's Australian Open, where he reached the semi-final - losing, of course, to Federer.
"I've never been one to begrudge anyone their success or be jealous," he said. "I have a lot of respect for what they've been able to do."
Roddick admits he had serious doubts about whether he could get back to this point, especially after losing in the second round at Wimbledon last year.
"Brook (his now wife, Brooklyn) and I had a lot of talks on if I thought I could play towards the top of the game. I definitely openly questioned it at that point."
