ANDY Murray can expect to earn more than pounds 100million as a Wimbledon champion. And he'll soon challenge David Beckham as Britain's top-earning sportsman. So far, Murray has won close to pounds 5million on the courts, while picking up sponsorship deals worth an estimated pounds 12million. But that will soar if he becomes the first British man since Fred Perry in 1936 to win a Grand Slam event. Top agent Max Clifford reckons he could earn pounds 100million in just five years, propelling him into the top division of sports earners. "He's just below the summit of Mount Everest," said Clifford, who looked after exWimbledon champ Pat Cash. pounds pounds "If he wins Wimbledon, he's there. That's the ultimate prize for any Tennis player but if you are British it is that extra, magical five per cent. "Winning it will make him the richest Tennis player we have ever had and if he wins it this year that will just accelerate the money-earning process." Murray's interests are shrewdly managed by Pop Idol creator Simon Fuller's 19 Entertainment management company, who count Beckham, Claudia Schiffer, Cathy Dennis,Will Young, Annie Lennox and The Spice Girls among their clients. His personal manager, Simon Oliveira, also looks after Becks. And, as well as sponsorship deals, there are plans for academies and major business initiatives. Clifford said:"Wimbledon is a special title among the Grand Slam collection - the history, tradition and magic of it all.Winning it would translate to one specific grand slam of cash." His earning potential will eclipse the only two Scots sportsmen in the top 10 rich list - David Coulthard (No7, pounds 45 million) and Sir Jackie Stewart (No.8, pounds 41million). Murray's recent modelling appearance for Fred Perry reveals the progress he's made in a few years from unkempt and moody teenager to a marketing dream. Major worldwide deals are certain if he winsWimbledon. A source close to 19 Entertainment said:"The ambition is to go global. The potential is enormous." Jonathan Gabay of Brand Forensics said a victory would mean that the "sky's the limit" and added: "Potentially we're talking pounds 100 million-plus because it's just going to go on and on. "He would become a David Beckham of the Tennis world. I have seen reports that start at pounds 80million to pounds 100million and on from there." Gabay added that Murray would be much bigger than Tim Henman. He said:"Henman had endorsements of around pounds 20million and the reason he had so much money was because he had the underdog quality that the English love, they could identify with him. But if Murray picks up the tournament, then he becomes a worldwide phenomenon. "It would be particularly powerful because, given that nobody British has won it in decades, he'd be a one-off." He has long-term deals with the Royal Bank of Scotland, Highland Spring, Fred Perry and Head. But he's not greedy. Aware of the impact the RBS collapse had on the country, Murray was quick to strike the right note and offered to adjust the terms of his deal. He said:"The bank kindly supported me when I was going through the difficult transition from the juniors to seniors. Now I want to try and help them." Dream gets him through training MURRAY has pictured himself winningWimbledon to help cope with demanding sessions in the gym. He said: "I've thought about serving for the title - but the closer you get to a Grand Slam, the less you think about it. "In the gym is the time I to think about those things - to find a reason for putting in the hard work - and learned better to when you're going through it on the running track. "Sometimes you feel sorry for yourself. You are finding reasons for doing the training. "When I get tired and out of breath, I think, 'I'm doing this so I can last long enough in the fifth set of a Grand Slam' - focusing on the last point and hoping your opponent misses." As for his prospects, he added: "At Queen's I felt more comfortable on grass than I have in the past. I played well there and I feel good." Murray has gone from strength to strength in the last 12 months, adding another level of power to his game and carrying on the momentum from a first Grand Slam final at the 2008 US Open. He said: "When my game kicked on, I started improve big time since Wimbledon last year and I was in much shape but needed get even stronger to be able to play back-to-back five-set matches over the whole tournament. "After Wimbledon last year, I went to train in Miami for three or four weeks and that is pretty tough weather to train in around this time of year. "That made a difference going into the hard court stretch and I made my first Slam final. "I have that belief that I can play the whole of the Slams now. "I would love to win Wimbledon one day, there is no question about that, but I try not to think about it too much." LAST BRIT TO WIN: Fred Perry. Top, Max CliffordIf he wins he has reachedWimbledon,' the summit'
