Top seed Azarenka wins in Andalucia
MARBELLA, Spain (AP)
Top-seeded Victoria Azarenka of Russia beat Yvonne Meusburger of Austria 6-3, 6-0 to reach the second round of the Andalucia Open on Tuesday.
Azarenka broke Meusburger six times on the outdoor clay to pace herself to victory.
Sixth-seeded Maria Kirilenko lost to Sorana Cirstea of Romania 4-6, 7-6 (2), 6-4 for the second time in as many meetings, and she was the only seed in action to depart.
Fifth-seeded Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez advanced with a 6-4, 6-3 win against Stefanie Voegele of Switzerland while fellow Spaniard and eighth seed Carla Suarez Navarro beat Roberta Vinci 6-4, 6-0 to improve her record against the Italian to 3-0.
Also, seventh-seeded Anabel Medina Garrigues beat Arantxa Parra Santonja 6-1, 6-4 in an all-Spanish matchup.
Italians Alberta Brianti and Sara Errani and qualifier Simona Halep of Romania were other first-round winners.
