You have so many different competing ideologies will say. Right now about the Saber metric people that have a certain standard the more traditional voters and now we're adding the steroids on top of that. Only on a ten -- ballot hard for the voters to reach a consensus I think on who truly is deserving. And again the bonds and Clemens numbers with a big totals that we talked about they were -- in the 30% range so. These guys have a very long journey to go Craig Biggio I think obviously was with the top vote getter the closest thing to a consensus candidate. Probably will go and in the next few years but Jack Moore said the -- on the second spot there he may have a bit of a tough call they're just because of the fact that some of the same record voters do not like what he's been doing. I am in a list some of the others you -- mentioned but it didn't get it when you talk about Barry Bonds Roger Clemens Sammy Sosa what do they all have in common we know. So let's go into it a little bit more is the hall of fame taking a stance on steroids and saying. You can't -- in on your first ballot. And if so when will they finally did and keep keep them. Well Laura I really do think that there is a tricky dynamic going on now about that sort of morality of the hall of fame and should the hall of -- be a place. For only people that always played by the rules of course lot of people talking about Gaylord Perry with a spit balls we threw back in the day Ty Cobb was was noted for his racism I'm going back even further all a lot of guys that had significant problems with their overall career -- or personal conduct. They're in there so I think that. We're trying to struggle to square exactly who we know definitely did used steroids and also people who are suspected of and I think that. Jeff battle if you look at his totals and even Mike Piazza was on his first ballot today these guys have numbers that would put them in the hall. But there are people that whether it's actually based on evidence or just insinuations and you know whatever it ends up being. They have concerns kind of guilt by association for these guys so I think what we're seeing Laura is just. A lot of people with significant reservations about candidates in the steroid -- where there's cap concrete evidence like in the case of Mark McGwire. -- just kind of speculation and hearsay so the -- fact that only a third of the voters voted for Clemens and bonds to me is pretty damning and I think that. They are gonna face a very very long road to go if they -- the bench wanna get to Cooperstown because. Keeping in mind -- a lot of the older guard people that voting that are voting on the veterans committee. They are probably not going to be very charitable towards these guys who they view as as cheaters and they may not necessarily want them in their company that you -- about. Would you have voted anyone in this. I would have Laura I would have voted for number of players now and that's one aspect where the ten man ballot does come into play and I've written a foxsports.com. I think that the the exclusion on voting for more than ten players. Needs to be eliminated because we have so many different ideologies now as I alluded to earlier this -- the the the the Saber metric folks in the people -- are about the steroids. I think you need to give the voters as much of a wide berth as possible to both of these candidates. I would have voted for example I would have voted for -- I would have voted for Bagwell a would have voted for Jack Morris Alan -- ball travels numbers very very similar to Barry Larkin and Larkin got in -- he deserves a vote. Fred McGriff another guy that they had not really gotten up that level of support he deserves it -- and I would have I should I should point out. I would have voted for bonds and Clemens because as I said I think that even though we have obvious evidence of steroid use they were. The greatest players of their generation has stated at the generation was and I do believe that in order to accurately tell the history of the game. Those two men need to be in all but what about the other two Sosa McGwire is that just not a first ballot but do they belong in there as well eventually. That's a great question -- and honestly no one them for this reason. I think that during the steroid era. It became too easy for players to take steroids get all balled up and hit a ton of home runs I. I look at Sosa and McGwire is fairly one dimensional players they got big during the security -- they hit a ton of home runs and that was there one trick so to speak. Bonds and Clemens much much more well rounded resonates but in the case of McGwire and Sosa and -- obviously the summer 98. There was there was I think too much of -- think there where that was what they did it took steroids they got -- in home runs that was the one thing you did that made them hall worthy and to me.
