Coach what was it like in your office this past winter when you found out that your players -- -- coming back there seeing action. Well I think that we are all very excited you know we we put an awful lot of time and effort into. Trying to educate talking to a those kids about the abilities of what's what's it going to be like if you stay for one more year how much better football player can you be. I'm much more mature can you be. You know when you actually make that leap to the National Football League I think that. You know one of the benefits of had been in the national football league for thirteen years I was able to pretty much articulate. The dollars and -- hints that it would mean just a year ago which should be the most prudent decision and we're excited detail just come back and erratic college coaching career which you -- So maybe returning stars with so much potential. Well how many and we had an awful lot of pretty talented players university in my in the I don't know that we ever in one particular you'd -- at that number. Of returning starters that. You know -- -- 38 Caroline's you know we've certainly put ourselves in position to have. Faster football team movement more experienced football team one of the things it's a big challenge for a senior forward. He -- try to build some depth that was probably one of the biggest differences. Between this program in the Miami program at a similar time. Expectations for footballer time's up on Chapel Hill is safe to have been a long time that you'll be the first to point out. And expectations are great when it's what you do on the field -- it really map. Yeah you know I think to a mindset of your football team loses it and and healthy -- Is for him to always stay focused on the aspect of -- and I continue to improve and get better and I think that. It's one of the things that excites our coaching staff is -- kids are hungry they love to be coached and really like football and liked trying. They're hungry to try to figure out how can they be a -- urges involved. Watching film does involve taking notes. Does involve more structure on the football field is forced practices are concerned and you know most of the time if you focus on the things that you can control and you really put a lot of passion into it it's gonna turn out good these. -- the quarterback position shaping up as it. TJ is the wounds or we'll go down to the last day of the last week that makes him now it's not gonna go down like. It's not necessarily teach is to lose TJ is very very good quarterback and he's a smart kid he's competitor. You know he has the benefit of having started a significant amount of games for us over the last three seasons. He's at some very very good football games some games it is his performance had been when it was we would not have won the football game. The program that you envisioned that you're trying to -- is one built on position competition I think that the best thing that could ever happen to a program. -- to have good young hungry football players that are pushing. Your older players from behind because what it's gonna do it is silly to overcome them and overtake him and he'll become the starter. We're still pushed those guys become the best player that they can and certainly in TJ Scott green -- In this situation we're Breeden is hungry he wants to play he loves to play loves to compete and he's gonna push. But by the same token TJ -- wanna give the job up so it's a healthy situation I think for Carolina football it's a pretty good dilemma for everyone all the way around -- him. And the thing that is the ultimate -- that is is that is much attention is the quarterback position always gets. You know it's not you can't. You can't make the quarterback position any different that you can you need the other positions it. If there's returning starters that you need the other 22 positions and somebody comes on to the team or somebody evolves it. You know from the depth chart incision or I want that job I want a bigger piece of our own challenges guy. And if they take that job away from somebody. Ultimately his coaching staff you gotta play the best player saw those type challenges being happy right now running back. I think so yeah I've slowly I think that we got. You know -- even though we may have nineteen returning starters I'd say that we've probably got six or seven guys. That it really got to step up their game they'd get to continue to improve because there's somebody behind him. They would like to play it like to maybe it is it becomes -- -- think that running back position that James looked pretty good. Well I mean it's good to get shot drawback. You know that really horror football team lose him the last five games of the season. You know he fractured his -- shoulder and he had to you know we had a pretty healthy situation having two guys with he and Ryan Houston that could go in. And you can use him to the strips and the things they do best. Watch line had to start carrying the entire load all by himself. That really put an awful lot of burden a lot of stress on our football team so it's good to get shot back because. And with those two guys and possibly with Johnny law right now. Playing almost exclusively at the running back situation I think there's plenty enough opportunities and touches and -- And for all three of those guys senior receivers they mature rather quickly as well he had some. Young kids who have grown up and that's going to be to accomplish this year well there was -- it was clearly baptism under fire we were very fortunate we have three. The country's most prolific wide receivers all got drafted only the National Football League. And it and all of a sudden now you're starting from scratch you've got young freshman receivers yet. Greg Little who played receiver he played running back he played wildcat quarterback you've played the slot. And yeah he was trying to learn how to play the position exclusively as a wide receiver and and I think is the season went along I think they got better I think they've made strides and made progress. A lot of times they found that they didn't know what they didn't know they didn't understand coverages and averages and it how to beat press coverage and I think that they're much better football players today than they were certainly a year ago. You're defense has a combined 230. Force starts. As you make it easier to coach is that. -- away a rule that out better for you as a program will I think what it does is that they certainly have you know. They know what to expect they understand now how teams try to attack certain. Schemes of your coverage they try to take advantage of your blitzes take advantage of your. Yeah those types of coverages that you have. You know and I think each one of those kids you know. Can remember back three years ago in 2007 and they are very first start. And you know they didn't know what they did know but now other position that they can help kind of gross over younger players there. It's taken on roles -- tutors and mentors for some of those guys to help us grow that dipped as well talk about Robert Quinn a little bit what tactic in the same boat on an awful to. Yeah Roberts great -- we executed so he's very hungry to become an outstanding football player he puts an awful lot of high expectations on himself I think. A lot of it. You know stands a little bit from what prolific wrestling career that he head high school. He was one of the country's dominant heavyweight wrestlers and and beat an individual sport it was all in your shoulders and go out to perform that if you were gonna we and you had to go make it happen. I think he cares little bit of that attitude onto the football field he really truly. Relishes opportunities to make plays is hard worker and practice and most of the great players I've ever been around those kinds of guys that. That did you know they work is hard in practices they do all the games for game -- We talked about a lot of positives there were two things that need working on reporting the LSU football game. Now I know there's there's more than a couple of things mean obviously one of the things we've got to do is we've got to build. You don't some slew of vacation and -- -- -- the five starters in our offensive line -- -- -- a lot of injuries. We kind of played musical chairs the offensive line and Allen -- started at three different positions both guard positions and played -- center and so we've got to solidify that I think we've got to develop some depth in the secondary I think it's going to be critically important. Last year as -- noted earlier are starters on defense we in this one single starters the entire season. And we can put that kind of pressure they can we can't expect those eleven guys to go and play 65 to 75 snaps every game we've got to be able to have. Another 789 guys that can play maybe 20/20 five plays and every ball game and give those guys who would have risked. I think you know I think certainly another important agree it is to continued maturation of this wide receiver group that. No matter who the quarterback is the receivers have got to continue to improve. You know in in Guerrero and their particular book as you get ready for running game -- LSU which would much rather start the season. Will power like LSU. Or a club that -- little bit more nontraditional and actually you know I mean I think a lot of that is is certainly driven about what kind of team that you what kind of expectations you have for your C. -- season you know when we were given this opportunity to play against him issues. You know we saw it is is is a -- more opportunities that here's a program that's won two national championships the last two years have been rated in the top fifteen. Almost prudently over that period of time. And if you aspired to get to that level. You need to go play those kinds of people to find out where Hoosier program it'll tell us that at the beginning of the year for this is kind of where we are. I think just football teams got a chance to continue to improve throughout the course of the season we're going to be as good in week one as I hope that we are in week four week team and we twelfth that. Will continue to improve throughout the rest of the season but. This will be this will be an intriguing matchup -- when it's generated an awful lot of excitement in our program it will intriguing how important will -- -- the program. Especially being played on national team I I anytime you get an opportunity to play on national television I think it's very important. You get a chance to make a positive impact you can certainly obviously my goal is to win the football game you wanna play well. -- it's very similar to the to you need the opportunities -- national television Virginia Tech last year was a big opportunity for our team this year opening associate that'll be big as well. How unfortunate incident on some of the conversations that are being hacked about NCAA allegations come this close to the start of and who can't in -- season. -- -- -- -- you know it's significantly better than if you would have come. A month or six weeks from now when you're actually into practices when you're actually into the season. Then I think it takes on a totally different. And a scenario. Is that fair to ask your opinion on whether or not agent should be held more accountable for their actions. No I don't think it's and I'd actually believe that agents I think it should be held more accountable for you know some of their actions. It's not always agents sometimes it's a financial planners have co opted through agents it's runners. This problem that is existing throughout the country right now. I think he's been their surprise their part of twenty years. It's it's been a situation that. Has been somewhat unchecked and and and investigated now all of a sudden it is become because of the southern cal incident all the improprieties in the things that went down with with Reggie Bush. Now all of a sudden you know it's become a national epidemic.
