Could make up -- because he recently had hip replacement surgery Greg Noel Picard is serving night. No we we we listened to the fans of the saint Louis blues. The greatest fans one can imagine and many many times we've heard about you gotta do something for the guys that the great players that were here and deceit. The fans that know these players that -- here in season ticket holders at that time is remarkable. It's also remarkable to see the young fans on their -- shoulders and things. Because they're learning about history of this great organization and thank you all for B yeah. When it when we've heard from many of the fans Michael McCarthy on the owner's greed got together with our entire staff has got does something. So this is what we're doing and we again appreciate everybody being here. For tougher read when I was nineteen years of age playing for the blues. -- was here and you talked about it a statesman and you talk about an individual. Who as a young player you'll look to him learn from. Red Berenson was one of those special people John talked about his career how we got traded here with a great Barkley later. And many other things represent about red to red red started as hockey in Regina Saskatchewan. Went to the University of Michigan graduated in the early in the business world there and graduated also in the world of hockey. Turn pro the National Hockey League ended up with a -- about the six goals on the road. Wonderful wonderful achievements. Red Berenson also was coach of the year in the entire National Hockey League as a Saint Louis blue head -- got. -- is now back at the University of Michigan. How would like to have read coaches and he's been doing it. For 27 seasons of -- That's something university Michigan Wolverines and they have won championships. And he had seen it all back we have a young player in the lineup tonight TJ and sick. Who played for red -- thank you very much to returning to Saint Louis and her -- the legend continues. It was also ninety years old when I got into Saint Louis and its biggest city I've ever seen I was raised in Calgary Alberta -- junior hockey never been through anything quite like this. And I need a lot of help and Garry -- took me under his wing. And it's something I'll never forget from Darian and what he did for me as a kid Gary was born in Calgary so we took care of one of those western Canadian kids. Gary yeah as a home in Oklahoma. He also lives up in one of the most beautiful parts of the world in Banff Alberta. Where he runs hockey academies there. And it's it was fascinating talking to Gary about it today. As he is coaching kids from all over the world there's kids that come there from Israel from Australia. From all over the United States parts of Canada other parts of the world to go there. And Gary they get into schooling and get in the hockey and eventually maybe they'll find their way into the scholarship world but I have a have a great future ahead because of people like Gary younger Gary. Thanks very much for coming back to Saint Louis. In seventeen years and I'm talking about Joey Mullen seventeen years the National Hockey League and have a start with the saint Louis blues. You know it's really fascinating about that. Is this a little area in the middle of Manhattan called hell's kitchen. And believe me when I say this is a tough area. It was a great area effort join his family grow up -- because you grew up as a as a tight knit group not only your family but all your friends and I know a lot of his family and I don't a lot of his friends were still there. He grew up playing hockey with a roller skates. The rollers not a blade skates he and his brother Brian who also played in the National Hockey League used electrical tape. As the puck because it's all ahead. And its if you really think about that think about the United States hockey hall of fame. You think of the world hockey hall of fame they called the NHL I don't Michael the world hockey all the things in Toronto. He grew up on roller blades he's in both is that remarkable story or what it really really. Six seasons with the blues Joey Joey ones and I must. Say thank you the Philadelphia Flyers Joey is one other coaches and they let Julia. Get away from Philadelphia today to come here and be a part of this. Ceremony thank you flyers. -- thanks very much for coming back. Classic classic story. Talk about big Walt and it doesn't like being called keep viewers Waltz and I got told that by big Walton self. Classic story. Was. We recovery recently that happened to be the trade deadline time and that's a very difficult time for everybody in our positions. And a very close there and he says I got a call. Got a call from big Walt. And big wall said you know Larry. It's not trade deadline time again he got a trade me or what are you gonna do this time. And Dave Taylor boo birds -- management groups that I probably just get a second rounder this year not a first round of and that's that you were big -- you gotta love it. Vice -- all big -- play in 1992. He had been he ability you have Boston university in 1992 the Olympics were an over bill France. And I was fortunate enough to be announcing it for CBS sports. And big Walt was -- young guy who was big and he was fearless and he didn't care if it was the unified team which was the Russians at the time -- it was the Canadians -- what was. He played his heart -- that team got on a -- didn't win it but they got on a roll and it was a it was a fascinating time in the middle of another small area of the world with TV USA. And one of their leaders with young man by the name -- Q Walt -- struck. We all know he's he's been one of the top power forwards ever to play for the saint Louis blues. But I and that's one side of -- which is a great -- the other side is as good if not better. And you think about what he does. In the community when you think about youth hockey you think about charity and organizations that need help. A lot of times you don't even know a big -- does did but he doesn't. If you ever dated someone to talk to a youngster that's in need a youngster that sick a youngster that's in top shape. Big -- took care of them and it was very very very sincere. When he did at least he didn't from a heart. And I and I can't tell you how fortunate in my opinion Saint Louis is is a city. To have a player that played here as a power forward. For the blues and then to have just is good if -- better person along with his family. As for what they do for the city of Saint Louis they quote a decision after -- We had all four of these gentlemen in the locker room. Today to -- our players and we're going through a bit of a rough time right now with. Oh for a lot of different situations especially the injury and a lot of kids in our room right now and these four fellows came him at the mall today. And I like to say on behalf of our team our management our ownership everybody. You folks coming out here is a testament to how much you believe in us and we appreciated thank you. And. From late fade stop Johnson into the corner -- guard for the blues played the to have been Donnelly. They couldn't get it out of our. On the drive better character and our advantage right and I know they've been. On the board -- Missouri had a better than it's been very good not good five minutes. I'm derby starters that are fast sport and ray and ray are great at the very good. -- Apparently. Okay. I'm -- that it brings chills feared. -- I know one thing -- had a terrible night. The red -- had a great night. The red Berenson. Well thank you very much the the announcer was John Jolie's dad Dan Kelly. It. And those days for those of you that all of the blues in knee late sixties when they first came to Saint Louis. There is something special I see if you end here guys that are eight. And and I hope this happens again to the city because what happened is a bunch of hockey players are really were trying to prove themselves. -- some older players that we're trying to hang on. Got a chance to play in Saint Louis and they became like an adopted team of this city the fans were so good. And I don't know what it was about our team maybe it was the body checks of Bob later. Maybe it was a great goal keeping a -- all of or Al -- wearing glasses blocking body holds shots. But every player on our team. Seemed to be special or member of the night in double or triple overtime -- -- Sharks scored their goal against Pittsburgh. And and it just goes on an -- and you mentioned Jimmy Roberts and Camille Hendry and all the great players that played in Saint Louis and they just loved it here. And I feel the same way every time I come back to memories come back but it wasn't so much about anyone players about the team. The team had success and it was about the fans the fans were terrific so thanks for showing up and let's support the blues. Yeah. The okay. All right let's hear from the Iron -- Garry Unger. What a great opportunity it was for me as a young kid coming into it and new community. I was traded -- icon of the community red Berenson. Two years later -- came back and played with me I had the honor playing with him. But we came in here his kids from Massachusetts. From New York from just got you on from all over the world. And you took us again. There was amazing. I got married here my kids were born here. My heart jumps every time I hear the -- Saint Louis. And we -- we start off his kids were. We're playing a little bit in the fields were playing ice hockey outside we get an opportunity to tickle a little bit farther we get a little bit of passion for the game. And we also need an opportunity to play and Saint Louis gave us an opportunity to play. I got married while I was here to my wife Beverly to a my kids -- -- and -- were both born here my other daughter was born in Edmonton. I tried to grow up here I'm still working on it. But it it was an unbelievable. Time of my life. The passion for the game the guys that I got to play with I got to play were John Davidson I got to play with marquee player Bob leaguer. Floyd Thompson. You know you can go down the last I mean if like forget some of these guys I did play without a helmet. There's some things I've I've not remembering here but. I've I I remember the time coming out of the tunnel the first time that I ever came in to Saint Louis in the old arena. And the coach had to give our game plan for the first two periods because you couldn't hear on the bench if you happen to score a goal. It was pandemonium you can hear that as far as Dan Kelley couldn't as Kimmel -- in Saskatchewan. Was unbelievable. But. Then we have we have an opportunity to go to the second round of the playoffs we played in Minnesota. And seven he won we won in overtime in the seventh game. I came back actually on that trip we were trying to get to the game and some of us we're gonna drive. There was there that you guys are flying on Jets and everything now we're we're gonna drive but we couldn't get all the stuff in neck in the -- so we had to take a plan. But we -- We went to the game we flew back after the game we got back to the airport at 4 o'clock in the morning and there was ten dollars and people at the airport waiting forced to. And fans and the media I -- special. Talk about a couple of special people. -- -- -- It. Park you play your. Dan Kelly. It's. -- -- -- we're special people in my life and had a lot to do with my spiritual walk. You know that that the real big thing about the game is a friendships that you make over the time. And you allowed me to come into your community and to be a part of that you part of that legacy. And I think as the blues I think all the people that were involved with this tonight that. I -- mention Larry stadium that Bruce Affleck -- and those types of guys all all still friends of mine. But. Thank you very much for the memories for me and thanks for remembering. I appreciate it. It. The wallet -- We'll get to -- It's okay. -- -- Okay. But the fact -- -- Hall of Famer Johnny -- Thank you. First off I like. Thank the saint Louis blues organization for having me back and having this night for us it's. Really and I wanted to be here and I -- I really appreciated. It's also an honor to be included with such a great group of guys here and great hockey players and great talents that there -- I'm very. You guys do. I -- get my start here in Saint Louis it was many of -- for me. Not that thank you email Francis again media opportunity. Taking that chance on a kid from New York City itself. Thanks NN end all this great staff that he had Dan would -- -- Bobby play him Bobby -- And all the great teammates had throughout the is here with Bernie -- are going Bryant sat there and Doug Gilmour. I enjoyed my time immensely yeah although -- a little short but. Who is out of my hands at that time. But. I I didn't really enjoy it I enjoyed the fans. When I was here we probably averaging about 121500. Fans. But I tea it was so loud that building it made it seem like 20000 and every night was special in that building for me.
