He's the Cy Young winner and I think rightly so the MVP of the American League Justin Verlander joining us now. How surprised were you to get that call yesterday. I was pretty surprised you know. I didn't allow myself to think that I would win it. And -- especially after as time sort of -- and it. I got the phone call about fifteen minutes later than I got the hands the phone call to decide -- so. I pretty much all the written off and then write about that time. -- PR guy for the Tigers called me. And you know I had time Alec and I found out like he can't be called with a -- economy it's too late. And it just says congratulations mr. MVP and out and what it what a feeling of elation I want to hear that. But they tell you they're gonna call you would a certain time the Cy Young you -- at the top of the hour what he said 1 eastern. To eastern. Tom 2:2 eastern but we do we find out a little -- are really not much obviously just I mean a little bit attack early but. Like I said I think I found out. Around 1 o'clock or so four or any top 45 this site onion and the MVP was around once it was. And that I was trying to find out what was going on that day so it and you can buy one how to go about my day and it was. To be about that time and you know -- -- on the hope and for a phone call and just not getting it in and all the sudden my phone -- you know that was that. Like I guess when your your waiting for a phone call like that dude did you tell all your friends please that this time do not call me. -- no I think don't let friends knew all my good friend that related news going on you know I was here my house about myself. My girlfriend mom was here and my girlfriend downtown nodded when anybody around me so I just kind of went down. In my little area and and just step up myself and try to not think about it watch TV do whatever. Ideal man -- you just went down in your little man came. Oh come on of course -- -- -- -- -- man I'm biding my man caves pretty much dominates everybody's butt. Give me an idea what you get your -- well. The new house so but I get a huge humongous couch with twelve foot TV's gestured. And a ping pong table. Haven't done the rest of this stuff yet. As well -- -- know it -- Justin Verlander of the Tigers pitcher and -- -- if you were gonna vote for MVP this year. Who would you vote for. I mean. I -- have so -- -- to sit there and you have -- people that it marketable themselves I disagree that I think they're crazy. I think they would and to -- tell anybody come to be honest about it. -- -- I supported. Not only myself but a pitcher's cause for MVP all year so why but I support that and then not vote for. -- exactly what I'm supporting. Who would -- given your second vote to. Second -- Well I would have to say Miguel just because of the -- seeing what he did all year. Was just actually amazing he's done it for years and gone and really fun under the radar doing it. Which I think it's a travesty I think people need to recognize have been as a baseball player Miguel earliest. Would you OK let's and then move all the Tigers here. Somebody you played against. Yeah I don't know I had no issues with that in you know those guys -- just having fun. -- again based on him and joke with each other I'd have been upset -- he did come to me but he just shut them along with Miguel and then that. You know that's part of the -- this game is to have somebody can -- you guys play against. What do you feel about these that you had one -- lefty off the ballot didn't think pitchers should be eligible for MVP. Make your case for her up pitcher for MVP. Well -- they'll look at his. How old. Much we affecting games that we are and if if we have a bad game we're gonna lose that game -- -- factions time. If we had a good game were by and win that game in 8590 -- time as opposed to position player that had great games are horrible games and you know not affect nearly as much. I think I look at is the -- that Cy Young voting is going lately it's going much more towards -- statistical analysis. Where. You know friends of last year Felix won the award. Not on the winning team didn't have a great record but clearly he was the best pitcher. That that goes -- get to witness valuable part of the award. Valuable player does something good happened that's a part of a winning team. That type of thing. So I think that -- the case for pitchers being eligible for MVP. Unless there's another award where it's the most valuable pitcher. You know not necessarily the most statistically. Best pitcher but. You know the most valuable and it has that type of award and I agree that there's two separate awards one for position players want for pitcher. And and that's that's the standard but as it's written now that you should definitely be eligible. You go to a half million dollars for the Cy Young you had no bonus prize for being happy just to. Yeah I think I'll be I think I'll be happy with the out of this kind of bonus that idea. Yeah I didn't think it right he had he had if you want his. What you do leg -- likely we splurge here. Four by -- on the Dubai an engagement ring and know. Well you're not that far along thing that I appreciate that well it -- you don't you she's gonna say yet what is it how much he's supposed to spend like three -- you know. Yeah somewhat Pia to look pretty extreme my -- at this -- -- has nothing.
