And now it's.

This week on coach speak with Brian Billick presented by --

We'll preview the AFC and NFC championship game. Plus find out what makes a great goal line play on all things.

Although the Mora coach people Brian Billick presented by Sampson.

Hi Brian Billick welcomed this week's edition of coach -- presented by Sampson. Got a great show for it this week Jay Glazer will be joining me a little bit talk about the coaching landscape in the NFL right now. Will be joined by Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio to break down the AFC championship game. The versus welcome in Rex Ryan fresh offer huge win again this NBA Chargers -- I -- tea I really enjoyed. Watching that game and what you were able to do with this group that just doesn't know it ought not to be doing this.

Well the funny -- actually we think that that. You know we're as good as anybody playing in our style is a lot different -- then maybe other teams that are still left in the playoffs. But we think we're as good as anybody you know I know we. You know we have a ground and pound philosophy. Him and we throw completions. And and that's what we try to accomplish offensively and move the ball that way. And then you know plays a you know great defense and with the formula. We think will be successful.

What we've talked about many times and I'm looking at this your matchups a perfect example -- it to two championship games we got Peyton -- we've got. Brett Favre to guaranteed hall of famers. Drew Brees threw in less of the dramatically happens cut -- career short likely roll hall of Famer at least in my opinion. To get three Hall of Fame quarterbacks. And then we got I say you know if this is good versus evil that is what the NFL wants a Hall of Fame quarterback and we got the evil empire. We got -- right -- this number one rated defense is number one rated -- a running game which is always been the formula. You know how the -- that formula which you're young quarterback against the -- fame quarterback you've faced him many times.

Well we don't have the you know obviously go out there you don't try to match. Peyton Manning throw for throwing all that kind of stuff you don't lose that battle. What we have to do is just be true to herself as a football team in. There's a reason we're in this spot and that's because they say we're. Were efficient in the passing game and we can run the football against almost anybody -- we're gonna find out and then. You know to play great defense keep him out of the end zone and and there are not in there until there in there and and that's a formula we Rhode obviously in 20020 yes Super Bowl championship so we're gonna find out.

You you have the capability more so than when we were together and you did a great job was all about. Making Peyton Manning Paulus and changing up your coverages and rotations and don't ever let him get comfortable. You have the capability with your back and to really kind of lineup go man on man you probably match up as well this would better this week that you did last week in my opinion. They have such great size is it is it. You know -- is it harder or easier pretty good you know what let's play cat defense you cover that -- you cover that -- let me do all this stuff -- of that I --

Well there's probably going to be a lot of that. Also makes things of this guy each yep if he knows exactly what you're in. Even a four point and make covers there's certainly different ways of playing man you can play an all out words just you know way. Cover zero or you can play a single hi guys you you've played two man you can play two man with a next year -- one way or the other so. Even though you know he's you know we will be playing a lot of man coverage and he knows that obviously. But there's so many different things you mix and you don't want Peyton Manning no -- specifically what you know watcher. You -- segment talk about your great running back Shawn Green someone you've moved up in the draft again. And really was at a position you didn't necessarily need talk about Shawn Green while that's true but I think we step with a formula of we have a really strong new -- us you know for football team we felt good about. We added that a couple of guys that we -- on defense to go along with the guys who were already here. In and bring in that brand new system we thought would you know our defense would be very good. And then on offense you know we felt like you know we had to have a quarterback. And then we looked at as likely we got a super you know super group that's a line. And more talented -- tidy and then and Jericho Cotchery feel great about him. So there're couple things what what we did we enter the draft saying okay mark census was a priority but after that. It was just an opportunity to add a heck of a football player and Shawn Green you know process a lot of draft picks to move up eleven spots to take them. But we had him rated as you know a one of the top running backs in the draft is that the top by some of our scouts and and our running back coach if they Anthony went. Thought that he was number one back for our system. Coming out of college so we moved up it was a gutsy move by Mike cannon bomb and really got to tip your hat to him but. You know to me you can't have enough good football players regardless of the position and that's how -- enter the draft than. And we knew that if you can hit them we really wanted to hit him with a 123 punch and Thomas Jones Shawn Green and of course Leon Washington are great third down back you know really a Pro Bowl tight back. That unfortunately you know was lost. You know probably after six or seven games this year.

Now we out of last week were a 100% now when you come taught me you win so you know you have that it we've set the pace resolute talked to next Monday. Absolutely I got the same stuff on this you know happened to be where in the same stuff perfect perfect regular revelation took four of the games this weekend. -- Pastime welcoming Jack Del Rio to preview the AFC championship game between the Jets in the cold and Jack you're very familiar obviously with both teams. An event in -- way I wanna explore fuel but obviously you know the Indianapolis Colts very well we both know Rex Ryan we worked together with Rex the style of defense. Talk about if your Rex Ryan and you have Darrelle Revis Kerry Rhodes and Lito Sheppard. And that good front and how you would attack Indianapolis without abilities go so much man called back again.

Well that's going to be interesting to watch you know whether or not very. Can play man to man in the back in the way. They like to. Mean the wave -- Rex likes to know I know Revis can hold up. I have concerns about the matchup on Dallas Clark having it be one of the one of the keys for them you know can they find some --

You know this is our good friend and as as the ultimate battle of good and evil you know at the hall of Famer. Peyton Manning again the evil empire and Rex Ryan play good defense run the ball against the team that has Hall of Fame quarterback. And the worst rushing attack in the NFL I'm Marty pick of the -- tell me tell me I'm -- career.

Well you know. You're you're hoping that they can make and go up there in -- enough offense we've scored one thing about paying mean they may slowing down he's gonna score. The end and in Indies in the score on offense I think the the real key is going to be how will Indies defense -- you know the way they've been plan. It's going to be tough for Sanchez to make any of those key third down passes to keep drives alive and without that's going to be tough for them score points. I have a hard time beating India it in the -- to end -- I think I think it'll be interesting to watch because the Jets are gonna have to run the ball. And possessed the ball but that's not enough Pietrus corporates and because -- to score points and in view of the other thing is really going to be interesting for me Brian is. How much of -- is -- Rex is blitz package. Does he feel comfortable bringing -- Peyton goes Peyton spends time at the line he's gonna uncover no words -- for more than any other quarterback --

What tell me about Indy defense because they don't give a lot of credit -- record has done a great job with the they handled the Ravens running attack pretty good -- Rex got the number one rated running attack. But the Ravens were pretty good I think there were fifth in the league and running and handled that run pretty good tumbled about that defense.

You know little underrated I think Clint session and in and -- bracket inside linebacker played really well formed into. I think their little underrated against the against the run and we've got a pretty good job of of really being stronger than -- camera -- in the last five or six years against the run. In -- so we'll see if that holds up and though it'll obviously be you know. A big big plus for the Colts if no New York runs the ball and alternate project great offensive lineman. They're very determined to run -- they do some good things with the running game with. When Schottenheimer in the design of what they're trying to do so but I think the real king comes and the third down to be able convert third downs possessed the ball that's where you have trouble.

Can Indianapolis hold up defensively you would think it would be important you know there master it. They're gonna go on to -- Tampa -- they're gonna come down into an eight man front they ought to be -- man front every down to stop that run. How do the Jets receivers match up with the Colts second third --

Well I don't think any receivers match up well against those. Those dvds because of the pass rush to me that's what it comes down to. See in these quarters I mean they've they've done a nice job that they're very very good good young players but they're not it's not like them don't read -- right here. They're not great outside corner I think there are holes sooner -- their secondary that you just never get a chance to fine because the pass rush. Is ferocious and so -- individuals stay out of the obvious must pass situations. I think the Jets have a much better chance of a finding some holes in the past. In the past came when they're doing and in running situations. And avoiding those third and must have third and real long situations because that's when the Colts of this feast on.

Still to come school's in session in this -- Billick 101. That in more push before Brian Billick presented by Sampson.

There's a place. Religions live.

They're -- fourteen. Only on fox.

We're -- coach speak presented by themselves really excited about my next guest joining me -- lie about that XIL I am and an -- what I wanna talk about because obviously. With my background I'm look at that at the changes at head coaches and what this league the league's going through changes now. And -- visit with you a little bit about I've I've put out there in my book more than game I think it's become a general managers -- so what they're looking for. Used to be it at all and cup being single source but now general -- you know what I'll pick players I'll handle the cap. Huge its coaches TX and oh my that right you know I think.

in a lot of kids but they'll you have the the power mongers out there like you know -- once beaten and wholesale sure Bill Carrick and trying to think I think the most interesting thing news. I talked a lot of coaches when they're gonna go interview. Yeah I think. Won't talk not so much about what their presentations going to be like with the answers just more so we deliver your answer. When you used to be where you're gonna go and you're gonna tell the order what -- this is what -- you don't have a good football community of AB -- eight I would do this this this this this. It's not like anymore now -- do you need to go and I like your first job I can't tell your employer what. They want a year and that I think it'll -- wanna hear. And then change it up that you get jobs and the problem out of these -- or don't know what they don't. They really some owners are good but most of they have no idea what is really go to me a good football -- good football union. They have their head from their bodies and whatnot but they really don't know what they don't know. Do you buy into the idea and it out there and coached talked about it obviously with. An uncapped season collective bargaining agreement possible lockout to now I'm a coach and he did get an organization to pick with the guy longer is a good thing. But do you think that is a factor the fact that back on the horizon on people who won let's just passed for no doubt about it absolutely there's. There's some voters who are you looking for that it doesn't matter let's just keep spending spending but other -- without a doubt it tightens it. Let's not make a move we don't know what's gonna happen it's cost cutting -- all over the NFL. Not just in the coaching ranks but elsewhere -- in other urged the organization surely that. In the coaches as well but where the order from most -- is now it when you organize our new god you're gonna put in in his contract something that. We hope for your system -- your head coach if -- the lockout well this amount of pay get suspended but you'll have the chance to make this man back. When the lockout people like that.

Which and and I find the same thing when it does with coaches virtually we're just now coming to bat period because most coaches contracts. It's become fairly vote in the league that you're gonna have usually a two year contract. And so now we're just finding out that says he's coaches sit down now. And they're okay what's my contract look like for 2010 we have but if you're gonna extend to 2011 just what -- talked about this pro ration. If we're locked out if we're not locked out. The --

Just haven't Abbott went over the nobody and I haven't looked it up pursued it personally that has seen the paperwork for were not the season but policies and there are. It. Twelve coordinator under contract. I think our -- took six teams were. Of coordinators under contract for 2011 to whip was actually nobody wants to extend -- lock up the wanna make sure but it contract and because also the owners want to go into this looked like they were unified on prepared for battle and -- Okay we're not -- name is much. Appreciative pleasure to -- them.

One of things we've talked before about the goal line offense and defense is probably. As much second guessing. I think that's in common. With regards to what coaches -- one goal line and anyplace else on the field and a couple things keep notebook. First usually it's a substitution package. We hear this spin -- standard. Goal line or sixteen flood stage. The first thing you can see if I brought in an excellent linebacker about four down linemen. Four -- that I'd take somebody off the field Neifi a quarter maybe an extra safety because I want -- bigger bodies don't hear as I can get away -- it. That was. After the game offensively. So defensively I have a couple of options typically on the goal line it's about selling out for a lot you either believe that the blond. And airports -- everybody out into the gaps. Hard gap responsibility. Side bring everybody -- on lives right. Hopefully sort out the -- At what point if you're gonna run a play action to say that's how all that you see teams. You know we've got back you -- out of that guy hits a wide open. Let's play action pass is because the defense totally sold out the line. Touted battle lines it was going to be -- three yard loss but of the past and guess -- offensively. He scored the other thing to do is obviously his dad gets past. Now -- much more. -- your last lap. By your inside backers safeties. Quarter before hesitant to running up and therefore if you have plenty play you've probably guessed right but it throughout the -- play the quarterback play action -- And everybody's drop back there is no I've got no place so. The difficulty of that and analyzing what's what are your political life. The average team in the NFL he runs about thirteen goal line plays that -- That's not a lot to draw from -- 2002 Super Bowl year we had arguably the best defense in the history of the National Football League. Because it was -- horrible kick out go like we only had seven goal line players -- against us on the entire year. So you could say there's not a lot of body of work off -- the actual number of -- to analyze the safety what does this can we do. In this situation so to a certain degree it's a pure guessing.

We come back we'll tell you who has the edge in the NFC championship game that is more of those people quiet -- presented by stands up.

Okay.

There's a place religions live.

February 14. Only on fox.

Now tapper how I he would presented by -- you know this weekend's championship games we've got to that any conference -- You begin with three quarterback two of them guaranteed hall -- By -- Peyton Manning. And Brett Favre and probably a third one by all accounts should he continue on his career Drew Brees likely Hall of Fame whether he gets to a report -- not. So got on -- good versus evil there's the good I don't people I've got Rex Ryan and evil empire. Right a rookie quarterback but he's talking about the best defense in the National Football League and the number one rating rushing off -- the National Football League. Oh the heart and soul of the league going forward is going to be determined here in the championship game you're talking about Peyton Manning and all that that indicate and not only is he a hall of Famer. And this style of play that he indicate that -- their last in the league in rushing off that have just that contrast of the Indianapolis Colts. Versus the New York jet probably what I'll live here topic of the New York Jets I think Rex Ryan that style of play Rex is very familiar with Peyton Manning. He's plated number of times they don't give a lot of touchdowns against Rex Ryan coached defense. Peyton Manning's can be -- I know we're in Indianapolis the question is -- a rookie quarterback. Orchestrate just enough plays with that great the match with that rushing off that. To beat Indianapolis Colts I think -- camp because I think the difference is gonna be just like we saw the San Diego game. I think Rex is going to be able to come up with a couple of turnovers. Put his team on a short field it's gonna be a fascinating combination to watch you all pulling for that great quarterback or talk about Hall of Fame guys. But the -- football. Four years in this league has been played good defense and run the ball if that formula can't win and indeed it's totally quarterback. Driven. League right now. I think we're gonna collectively they're giving your gonna feel the earthquake of that George -- is and the by India Paul Brown the world turning over there grave. Because this league has totally come over to the dark side I would being nothing but -- pass -- week. I'm Brian Billick that might have on LED and that's how I. Now joined again by Jack Del -- and talk about the end of the match -- between the Minnesota Vikings -- on saint Jack you're kind of tied to both of these. You were in New Orleans your beautiful wife to win this from that area. You were we were together in Minnesota talk about how what you he about these two teams and the matchup that they present. Well.

You know yeah I'm a former viking player. Former -- player also started my career there as a coach and a -- there and my daughter lives there's always vote or root for the you gotta -- politically correct we now. -- sorry viking fans I mean I love you never ending but I ample infancy of this weekend and I got so many buddies back there. Should be allowed city I don't know what they'll do nothing you'll lose so I guess I believe. It'll be a lot of fun. I I do think that this is a heck of a ball game you know Minnesota's defense was really strong this past weekend. I think they have a stronger defense and Saints but the Saints really they countered. And Brett Favre doesn't turn the ball over if Peterson doesn't turn the ball over I think the New Orleans is gonna have hard time because I don't think there's good defensively it is business news.

I'm looking at that that defense -- they have such great game against Dallas again the team you played with very familiar with. My question would be do you think the that -- the -- in -- Are going to be able Ron. Again that good vikings' front four got the Williams and side to bring in that rush. On behalf are reminds me a little -- 2000 teams you know we have are goose and Adams were bring in Peter Boulware. Mike -- on the outside they remind me a little bit about group could that make this -- a little one dimensional. I think it can and I think the censor power fairly calm.

being one dimensional with Drew Brees on the ball drew have been you know. Unbelievable this year in. They have explosiveness and pass game I think they'll run the ball in order to try and keep the Vikings on us but they're not gonna. They're not gonna -- the Vikings I don't think anybody has -- about the last five or six years. I think it's gonna come down to Drew Brees been able to make plays in the pass game. And their offensive line given him the time -- down the field. There they're gonna have to move the ball from -- to beat the Vikings.

Yeah and then and an obvious -- I was very impressed with the Vikings. Pass protection against a very good Dallas front that can throw where Hatcher they can throw Ratliff that should they get they've got Spencer got a lot of good people they come matchup. I'm not sure New Orleans obviously Will Smith but they don't have Charles Grant. Do you think New Orleans can put enough pressure on. Brett Favre -- the most turnovers.

I do think they can and I think that's what that's what they need to do Greg Williams G money we like the call here. He's been here with us last year very good defense -- coach she's got a lot of blitzes. Let's patterns and he likes to bring of people he's going to be dial him up I know he is he's gonna try to get. In Brett Favre said in and trying to get him rattled them knock him around he knows. That present older quarterback that doesn't wanna be hit. And he's gonna see if he can't make them uncomfortable making -- the ball into I think that's one of the real keys in this ballgame if the Saints can can force turnovers. -- have a legitimate chance to win this football game I think without the turnovers are gonna have trouble.

I appreciated -- to destroy your pick him. The Jets and Minnesota right. I get to go go Olympic Art Bell I don't know a lot of video update taken those saves on the open the Saints win big time and and I think in these two united Indies in March on to the -- now is is gonna make a tough and go back to -- that's. Jack I appreciated thanks. -- basement once with benefits will continue to bar with a college experiment. With there haven't or four.

throwing it back I didn't live in the fall and politics. College sports show tonight and.

They'll do for this edition of coach speak presented by Tampa picture -- next. On Tuesday at 1 PM eastern as we get ready for the Super Bowl joined the games everyone see you next week.
